I'm old enough to have discovered the wisdom in Durant's words here. The older we get the more most of us accumulate, which steals our time. We become slaves to our possessions, as everything has to be one or more of the following: brought home, opened, closed, unpacked, put together, taken apart, washed, dried, read, used, brought out, put away, moved from one place to another, stored, given away or taken out to the trash! So many of us have way too much to keep in order, which results in a great loss of liberty.

I don't think this is necessarily true, but have no doubt it is in some cases. Though not a bureaucrat, I even catch myself feeling rather important when I am writing, regardless of WHAT I'm writing about----like THIS, for instance! :-) At any rate, this quote made me laugh.
