As man litigated from there, claiming to be the supreme authority and maker of law, the number of those who truly love, or even have the slightest inkling of that which is liberty has dwindled drastically. King George's wars are not to guard or defend liberty. Reply Robert, Sarasota 12/21/06 This thinking has been the downfall of civilization and will continue so until we are gone and will just be a dirty memory in the history of Earth - Earth definitely needs another Krishna if we are to save ourselves and obtain true Liberty. Reply EGL, LA 12/21/06 God has nothing to do with it. Our government was formed by the people for the people--not that we live up to that blessed mandate, but an interventionist god is a very limited idea of what god preoccupies herself with. Reply Anonymous, Reston, VA US 12/21/06 Right on Robert & EGL. I do give this one as I do agree that to have liberty one must guard and defend it... which is to say that one should not start wars with innocent bystanders (even if they are bullies) while ignoring the bully who is taunting you... Reply Dick, Trice 12/21/06 Another vote for utter nonsense. 1 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 12/21/06 God grants liberty to everyone who asks for it. It is the liberty of the spirit that even a slave can have. If we want liberty for our bodies, then it is ours to take and defend by force as necessary. Reply David L Rosenthal 12/21/06 1 Corinthians 7:22. 1 Reply E Archer, NYC 12/21/06 'God' taken in the liberal sense (classic liberalism) allows for multiple interpretations. The word could be substituted with 'Nature' or that 'inalienable' force from which we claim our 'rights'. The fact does remain, however, that in a predatory world (humans are predators at the top of the food chain) liberty must be defended against those that endeavor to yoke us (a human trait found throughout recorded history). One must free the mind then the body. For those who have taken an OATH to covenant, the price is in the balance. Mr. Webster's interjection of God, adds great gravity to his " forcible right words." To some an OATH is more than just words. Lukewarm, half hearted won't get the job done !Semper Fi, Now and Forever.
