Fisher [Lord John Arbutnoth Fisher of Kilverstone] (1841-1920) English first sea Lord of Admiralty and writer Macaulay "Essay on Lord Nugent's Memorials of Hampden" Military , Peace , War , Violence Ratings and Comments Reply Reb, Jerusalem 10/5/07 Reply warren, olathe 10/5/07 Reply John Gilmore, Cincinnati 10/5/07 Reply E Archer, NYC 10/5/07 If you are going to go to war, go all the way and be done with it. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 10/5/07 Absolutely. I have thought this has been one of the greatest shortcomings of GWB and the neocons since the very beginning of the war. They hamstrung the military and made them play by the rules of some civil police force and prosecute (persecute?) them for doing their job. In addition, I think so-called smart bombs are one of the worst things that ever happened to warfare. The limited destruction makes war acceptable for both sides and only prolongs the suffering. Fight the war. Finish the war. Come home. Reply Mike, Norwalk 10/6/07 That's why the US lost the war in South East Asia and been having such a hard time in Iraq, they didn't abide the quote's message. Reply Anonymous 3/1/09 Please tell me this quote isn't saying what I think it's saying... Reply cal, lewisville, tx 5/31/11 Yes, it is anonymous-if you can understand that. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 5/31/11 Or as General McArthur once said, " There is no substitute for Victory". Obama doesn't seem to understand this. Reply J Carlton, Calgary 5/31/11 Again we look and see wars undeclared by Congress as required by the Constitution. The latest being Obama's (UN) "kinetic military action" in Libya. Are we at war? If so, declare it a war and annihilate the enemy. If not, quit wasting our lives and our money. 1Reply Rusty, Where the buffalo roam, USA 5/31/11 Absolutely. To be 'moderate' in war is to prolong the conflict. Gen. Sherman understood that the quickest way to defeat the South was to take the war to them. Reply Robken 5/31/11 Stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reply GunnyCee, Durham 5/31/11 This is a fine example of liberal logic. The premise and the conclusion do not follow any form of known logic. It's like saying The game of football is viollent, therefore, modern football is imbecility. Or, how about this one...Protecting your home from armed intruders can be violent, therefore protecting your home is imbecility. Logic demands that both side of the argument must be equal, and they must be true. You can't say that All black cats are crazy, therefore all crazy cats are black. Nobody can swear to the verasity of the premis or the conclusion. However, the libs have come up with a good one at least once... "What if they had a war and nobody showed up?" Reply Lolokimo, Hawaiian Nations 5/31/11 I think General George Patton, had it right, knew this, tried to tell the politicians. War is about total atrition, leaving an enemy alive, is foolish, for if he is a man, he will come back to finish the job, to avenge his brothers killed, he cannot forget those who he percieves to be an enemy, and will seek retribution. it is a matter of common sense , it is part of the core of common sense of intelligent men. Americans, beware of those who would dumb you down, study history, and learn from it. Reply Publius 6/1/11 As Sun Tzu said, when you go to war unleash every possible avenue of force at your disposal until the enemy is completely exterminated. "No poor bastard ever won a war by dieing for his country. You win a war by making the other poor bastard die for his. Period." --George Patton-- The side that tries to fight politically correct and make war into sunshine and rainbows always loses. War is Hell, don't try to turn it into anything else. Fight with everything you've got and get through it as fast as possible. Reply Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown 4/3/22 Moderation in life, is the essence of peace and tranquility.
