I can't remember whether I got it from Merlin or from Jimmy Hoffa...... : ) ......The information is on several websites, including that of the Democratic Socialists of America, which is associated with the Socialist International.

From what I can gather, the list of above congress people are members of the Progressive Caucus, not the DSA. (Of course the policies of the Progressive Caucus are likely to be labelled socialistic anyway.) Here is a quote from Insight Magazine, Feb 22, 1999: DeFazio states flatly that the Progressive Caucus has nothing to do with the DSA. "Nobody I know had any contact with them. I found out about it from some constituents in the southern part of my district, where it caused a great flurry of letter writing and activity. The Democratic Socialists of America put something about the Progressive Caucus on their Website. They can do whatever they want -- there is still free speech. We don't have a Website yet. My staff is working on that. What I will ask [DSA] to do is to provide just a link to us and not put in any of their own commentary or analysis."

Archer: Are you saying that these fellows are not socialists? If that is what you are saying, you are mistaken. Did you notice that DeFazio is on the list, along with Maxine Waters, Charles Rangel, Luis Gutierrez, Bernard Sanders, and other good friends of Castro? Fool yourself if you like.

What I am saying is that these 54 members of congress are not 'registered' socialists nor members of the Democratic Socialists of America. This is a list of the congressional Progressive Caucus -- so why not say that instead of inferring official membership in the DSA or Socialists International? The head of the committee, DeFazio, denies any official connection with the DSA or SI. Now, is the Progressive Caucus socialistic in its leanings? Most likely. Is the Democratic party socialistic? Yes, most of the time. Is the Republican party socialistic? Well, Nazism springs to mind. Face it folks, the US government has been marching steadily towards socialism for decades. But taking a congressional committee list and calling the members 'registered socialists' (without even mentioning the committee name) is inaccurate and intentionally misleading.
