“An equal application of law to every condition of man is fundamental.”

True, but sadly corrupted. Corporations can rob people of their life savings and only get a small sentence but when you rob from them the story is different. I love the story of the man that stole a loaf of bread to feed his family and the baker charged the man with theft when the case came in front of the Judge he told the baker to provide a loaf of bread every day to the accused.

Don't forget the 'special' cases of equality ... hate crimes.

That is only half of the issue. When tyranny operates under de facto 'color of law', equating such pretense to the 'law of nature', an equal application there of is injurious and depraved. The equal application of compelled compliance, license, theft of the noble labor's fruit, forced charity/ID/insurance, etc. etc. etc. voids freedom and liberty.

Corporations notwithstanding, politics notwithstanding - this one idea is truly the foundation of our republic. A law that applies to me applies equally to anyone else. It is what gives me a stake in the law in general, and compels one to prevent the formulation of unjust or unequal laws. We are not created equally, but we are to be treated equally under the law. If the crime committed requires a $10,000 bond that is what it requires, regardless of my ability or inability to pay it.
