They are external dangers, petty dangers. We should fear ourselves. Prejudices are the real robbers; vices the real murders. The great dangers are within us. Why worry about what threatens our heads or purses? Let us think instead of what threatens our souls.”Victor Hugo ~ Victor Hugo (1802-1885) French poet, novelist, dramatist of the Romantic movement Integrity Ratings and Comments Reply Mike, Norwalk 11/13/12 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 11/13/12 I question the way Hugo references the word prejudices. We are all "Pre-Judiced" about something, probably many things by the time we are 25. For example if I am suddenly surrounded by a gang of foul mouthed latinos, or blacks, or whites...or whatever, you can be pretty sure I am going to be offended and on the defensive. Why? Because I've had that happen and I am "Pre-Judiced" as to the probable disposition of these little thugs. So no, I don't buy that prejudices are the real robbers, prejudices are usually alarms going off that guide us. "Bigotry and Racism"...well there's another matter altogether.... Reply Doug, La Mirada 11/13/12 Matthew 6:19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
