Bush did not address the UN on February 1, 1992. The texts of the four speeches he gave to the UN General Assembly annually in the fall, and one he gave to the Security Council (on Jan 31 1992) are available online at http://bushlibrary.tamu.edu/research/paper.html and this quote appears in none of them.

Thanks, Bert. We have marked this quote as False, although it is popular on the internet. It appears to be a paraphrase of a quote from the January 31, 1992 UN speech.

True - I've seen the video of him saying it.

The President led his nation as the leader of the world that US is...They needed to fulfill their responsibility of maintaining international peace and security and they courageously and superbly did. To understand their actions, we need to understand world history...People out there desperately need, not only to know history but also to understand what they know about history.. Be grateful that we are still all alive...thanks to those leaders for having led...

Well of course the G.H.W. BUSH PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY is going to deny that he said this!! Duh!!

You can argue about dates and claim that the quote is false because it was not given on such and such a date. As Anonymous says, I have actually seen the video of Mr. Bush stating this pledge of allegiance to the UN Charter using the exact words indicated. Interestingly, a recent search for the video produced nothing. Apparently the video has been edited, destroyed or removed from the public's view.
