J. Robert Oppenheimer Quote

“There must be no barriers for freedom of inquiry. There is no place for dogma in science. The scientist is free, and must be free to ask any question, to doubt any assertion, to seek for any evidence, to correct any errors.”

In the atmosphere that Oppenheimer would promote, The Reverend Al would have been laughed out of the room. His dogma won't stand up to scrutiny and that's why they won'r participate in an open forum debate.

Not only Reverand Al, but Nancy, Harry,Barney, and the rest of the Bunch.

The "open forum debate" of science is the peer review process and open sharing of results and conclusions. Again the Radical Religious Right forgets that it was that RRR that silenced their own scientists on many purely scientific questions, replacing science with political and religious policy. Given the RRR's atmosphere, it is small wonder that America no longer leads the world in math & science.

"Given the RRR's atmosphere, it is small wonder that America no longer leads the world in math & science" And of course it would have nothing whatever of the great "dumbing down" of our children perpetuated through forced public schooling. And BTW I am neither religious nor conservative, at least not by today's measure of the pseudo conservatives who are no different than the socialist left. They're all the same now.

The 20 signs of a fascist America are nearly complete - the Iron Curtain still exists in America... but it's not between Russia and the USA its between the American Government and its people.

I think Josef Mengele must have thought there should be no barriers to freedom of inquiry; and yet he did "inquire" didn't he?

D, Fort Worth

Don't forget the greatest barrier to freedom of inquiry and the pursuit of a better world for all human beings is religion. Faith is a killer of inquiry, a blinder of fact and reason.

E Archer, NYC

Knowledge is power and forever will be a threat to religious or secular dogma.
