As far as I'm concerned the only good socialist is either dead or living in an enemy state somewhere and after great sacrifice to give us individual sovereignty, I think our founders felt the same way..... “Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say 'what should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and our posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship and plough, and sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth? If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!” ~ Samuel Adams 4 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/20/10 re: Michael Rivero quote "but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all."...A more accurate description would be hard to find. 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/20/10 re: Alexis de Tocqueville quote An accurate depiction of the lower side of life. Why would Waffler take it so "personally" I wonder.... 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Samuel Adams quote Waffler...we've been through this over and over and frankly you're getting very boring. We have Corporatism or Economic Fascism if you prefer, but this continent has never truly seen free market capitalism. 3 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Winston Churchill quote Waffler...that's Corporatism your describing there. That thing where Politicians and Corporations get together to divvy up the pie. It's just as evil as socialism and also a system of parasites. 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Samuel Adams quote Anonymous...what makes you think it's upt to you to "allow" or "disallow" anything? Oh that's right...socialists are control freaks...I forgot! lol Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Winston Churchill quote Archer...Calgary is one of the few bastions of (semi) free enterprise left in N. America. Socialists are viscous little things and they really hate that others do well when compared to their "envious" existence. LOL 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Winston Churchill quote jim k...Hanson is indicitave of the same % of canadians as americans who are government trained sycophants. She does not speak for "Canada" but for communism, Sadly they walk among us. 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Edmund Burke quote Have we ever seen a government repeal an unjust law when it gave them more power? Never, and that's why we still have the Patriot Act...a completely dictatorial "police state" law. 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Samuel Adams quote My favorites are the perversion of the words capitalism and free markets. We have never had either and the control freaks use them as their banner of evil that we must all fight against. Sadly, it works on the simple minded. 4 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Winston Churchill quote L Hanson, call me names if you like, that is all that socialists have going for them. And for you to say that capitalism has failed puts you squarely in the corner of the ignorant. We have never had capitalism. What we have had is corporatism or economic fascism if you prefer. And for you to disrespect one of history's greatest figures on a concept so simple even children can understand it absolutely demonstrates your inability to grasp basic justice, ethics, morals or logic. Have a nice day. 41Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/19/10 re: Winston Churchill quote My respect for Churchill just soared to new heights. How very well spoken. 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/16/10 re: Robert A. Heinlein quote Carol in Georgia...you go! :) 2 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/16/10 re: Marcus Tullius Cicero quote In order that free men remain free men...they must be armed men also. A very wise group of people committed this idea to law back in 1776 I think it was... Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/16/10 re: Heywood Broun quote Anonymous...what is "free" health care? Who pays for "free" health care? Nothing is free silly person... Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/13/10 re: Georg C. Lichtenberg quote Well Waffler, just because people write songs about freedom doesn't necessarily mean they "are" free, they just think they are. It does however, help demostrate my point...people are ignorant of the encroachment of government into every corner of their lives. But that won't last...There's a great awakening coming. Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/13/10 re: Georg C. Lichtenberg quote When our own government has completed its mission of controlling every aspect of our lives we will no longer be people. We will be automotons incapable of anything but taking instructions. Kind of like Democrat Zombies already do... Take out the trash in November. 2 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/12/10 re: Lester Frank Ward quote I'm always surprised when I see how vehemently Americans will refuse to give up their guns (and rightly so) but will give their kids minds up for state sponsored training. Odd isn't it? 5 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/11/10 re: Booker T. Washington quote Which explains why when you raise an objection to the policies of the Kenyan in the White House, the Libbies shriek "racism". It's all they've got. 6 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/10/10 re: Thomas Jefferson quote Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Thus the beneficiaries are spared the shame and danger that their acts would otherwise involve... But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them and gives it to the other persons to whom it doesn't belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish that law without delay ... No legal plunder; this is the principle of justice, peace, order, stability, harmony and logic. ~ Bastiat 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/9/10 re: Lord Acton quote Go with morality, Go with ethics and nobility. And if you like Go with God. But if we are to change the USA back into a Constitutional Republic you absolutely MUST Go Libertarian. Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/9/10 re: Daniel Webster quote Thanks for the encouragement :) Anyone who is interested can get on to this line of thinking by reading "The Law" by Frederic Bastiat. It will definitely help you define a lot of the thinking you already have on the go. Best, JC Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/9/10 re: Daniel Webster quote The proper function of the judiciary is not to let justice reign, but to prevent injustice from reigning...to protect us from injury. Meaning damage to self or property. This is the proper function of the justice system and the only way we can be free to pursue our interests. As opposed to the system of legalized plunder under which we now exist. Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/6/10 re: Joseph Addison quote Waffler, as long as we have the Keynesian System and the privately owned Federal Reserve printing thin air dollars, we will have debt...that's just how it works. 1 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 8/6/10 re: John Philpot Curran quote More than vigilance, it's time to put DC under a microscope.
