We hold this truth to be self evident. The dummying down of Amerika is so complete that words such as marriage, license, income, inalienable, rights, law, justice, money, slavery, etc. are sufficiently changed, on such a regular basis, that the related principles and individual / societal consciousness have been lost to obscurity.

J Carlton, Calgary

My favorites are the perversion of the words capitalism and free markets. We have never had either and the control freaks use them as their banner of evil that we must all fight against. Sadly, it works on the simple minded.

J and Mike covered it well.

Do we really have written law in this land? The high court will rule on the constitution one way, then years later it will rule just the opposite. Who knows what is going on. Our laws are only a judge's opinion.

Like 'liberal' and 'progressive' -- once implying liberty and prosperity -- are now code words for 'gradual fascism.' I guess it all depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is...

Yet we still watch Fox Entertainment and allow Palin and her cohort's air time - absolutely amazing....

J Carlton, Calgary

Anonymous...what makes you think it's upt to you to "allow" or "disallow" anything? Oh that's right...socialists are control freaks...I forgot! lol

Waffler, Smith

The quote makes me think only of Sarah and Rush. Mike the word income has always been the same and will never change. Income is what comes in, what you put into your pocket. The opposite is out go what you take out of your pocket. You talk like you are or wish to be some kind of natural law or fundamnetal thinker and cannot understand somenthing as straight forward as that. We have rampant capitalism J. That is what all our industrialists going to China to manufacture our goods are about. Going to cheap labor markets in a Socialist or Communist country. Wake up man that is pure raw capitalism. Now they are moving from the coast of China to the interior where labor is cheaper.

Mike, Norwalk

Waffler, your US progressive rant has no validity except on liberal media outlets. Income was a corporate excise. From Steve Wynn to Disney, from Briggs and Straton to the rest of the fortune 500 that have left for China, almost without exception, all have moved to China because they can count on what the government is going to do next. They can plan on stable fiscal policy, a non-rampant inflationary policy, stable banking relationships, a non-overbearing de-industrialization policy as in the US and they can plan their business a minimum of 2 to 5 years in advance (all of which is not necessarily capitalistic in nature or possible in the US but rather, sound business practices for survival - that which has become all but impossible in the US). Cost of labor or capitalism has very little to do with it

J Carlton, Calgary

Waffler...we've been through this over and over and frankly you're getting very boring. We have Corporatism or Economic Fascism if you prefer, but this continent has never truly seen free market capitalism.

Mike, Norwalk

J Carlton well said. Wallmart exists as a product of Corporatism or Economic Fascism. It could not have expanded as it did without the explicit help of the State.

Waffler, Smith

"Cheap labor has nothing to do with it", wash your mouth out Mike! "Income" Mike means what comes In. You get more delusional and schizo everyday.

Mike, Norwalk

Waffler, I said little not nothing. I've also been contemplating selling or moving my business for the same reasons given by the large companies. As I've stated before, I can make a better product outside the US than I can inside the US and do it cheaper, paying the employees more with better benefits.

Abigail Adams

We subsidize the cheap prices on products from China sold at Walmart...you believe you get a good deal, but you are paying more than at the checkout counter!

GunnyCee, Durham

I had to laugh at the Waffler's definition of income. Hey Waffler, try out the definition of "cut." Such as in the way liberals use it when Congress deems it necessary not to increase spending as much as they want on one of their pet programs. Instead of a 20 percent increase, they only get a 10 percent increase. They scream and holler and insist that these are cuts to the program...that innocent school children will starve to death because the Republicans have drastically cut their program. Now THAT's the definition of playing with words, Waffler.

Waffler, Smith

GunnyCee excuse me if I am wrong but I tend to believe that you generally think Republicans good and Democrats bad. Repulbicans save and Democrats spend, etcetera. I was watching the Ted Stevens, Senator from Alaska funeral. Was interesting to hear him described as the Father of the Earmark. What do you think about that viz a viz your Democrat bad Republican good tirade or rant above.

Patrick Henry, Red Hill

The martial misuse of language had its genesis in the Garden when Beelzebub, the archetypal psychotic and practitioner of psychopolitical warfare, seductively uttered to Adam and Eve:

" Yea, hath God said ..."

All who dwell beyond the bounds of the constraint of Virtue are as "liberal" in their
misuse of language as Adam and Eve proved to be in their interpretation of the Divine Mandate.

Robert, somewhere in the USA

The founding father's were mostly Liberals it's so sad how we have all been hoodwinked by propaganda and how we today demonize a word that historically has always been about fairness. The current political system has ruined the true meaning of Liberal I wonder what next word will be made dirty.... In the meantime I suggest you all look up the Oxford Dictionary definition "Liberalism" Well, to save you the time here it is:
‘one of the basic tenets of liberalism is tolerance’
'Willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas'
'Favorable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms'
I think there have been liberal amounts demonizing the word Liberal.

You can blame the Progressives for the corruption of the word Liberal.  Tolerance?  Today's liberals are as intolerant as they get.  Diversity in appearance only, not in philosophy or ideals.  Hate and hypocrisy  that is today's liberal.  Cultural Marxists masquerading as Liberals 'respectful of individual rights and freedoms.'  Today's liberals demand their 'fair share' of the Treasury without putting anything in.  They demand extraordinary treatment for classes (not individuals) or else rioting mobs.  They are all for elections if their candidate wins, but for a coup d'etat if they lose.  Democratic in name only.
