The gun is the ONLY equalizer out there that lets the 90 pound woman stand on equal ground with the 200 pound attacker. Even if all people were disarmed (impossible) you would only be LESS SAFE as the larger and stronger criminal will regularly prey upon the weaker and now 100% disarmed honest citizen. Look at the UK which has seen an astronomical increase in violent crime since their ban took effect! When the criminal need not fear the citizen the citizen must live in fear of the criminal. I wonder... does Ms. Feinstein have armed security? Well, Liberty Quotes Editor, you certainly stirred the pot..." He would have and more so if he knew the arsenal and assumed powers claimed by the Federal government! There are safer and more accesible methods of storing it while in bed. 8 Reply Ken, Long Island 10/29/07 re: Robert A. Heinlein quote "By and large, lasting resolution of major issues comes from reason, not from force." Explain that to Carthage and the American Indians please. The statement is true. Iraq and Afghanistan are excellent examples because full naked force is NOT being used. If it were, in all its horrific capacity, the problem would be solved. Our society at this time does not have the stomach to settle the matter as has historically been done. That does not mean it will not gain that resolve at some time in the future. I do not advocate, merely point out the obvious. Reply Ken, Long Island 10/29/07 re: Robert A. Heinlein quote Freedom is NOT Peace. Everybody can agree on freedom. Freedom is at the least being free to do as one pleases so far as it does not directly affect another. No two groups can agree on Peace. One religion claim there is no peace if a woman leaves her face uncoverred. Another claims no piece if someone works on the Sabbath. The busy body neighbor claims there is no peace if someone works on their car int he front yard. The bigot claims no peace if another race attends the same school as his child. Peace can only be fully maintained by ENFORCEMENT. That by itself runs contrary to Freedom. 3 Reply Ken, Long Island 10/29/07 re: Robert A. Heinlein quote Wow... Heinlein certainly never intended this to apply to religion! If anything his writings show disdain for religious beliefs. This is also not a all for blind obedience, as can be seen from his many other writings. All he is saying is the higher callings of Duty and Loyalty to a society and one another are critical to the survival of a society. When those are absent the society is doomed. Who can argue that when people no longer care to support their own society that its days are numberred? SaveOk2 Share on Facebook Tweet Email Print
