Roosevelt quote Every government has been for sale since private individuals or groups have had the money to bribe and influence politicians. Prior to any Capitalist system this has been the status quo. Refer to your history books on Europe, monarchs and their courts were always up for sale. The titles and models of government have changed but nothing else has changed that much in respect of this quote. Punishment for guilt depends on having done something wrong. 1 Reply WILL, Ice planet 7/15/09 re: Adam Weishaupt quote Sounds like imperialist balderdash. Outdated thinking which unfortunately is how most governments still think. Though this comment is unworthy or repudiation it must be as it's just stupid. *People shouldn't be controlled *Freedom is the sign of a liberal state Reply WILL, Ice planet 7/14/09 re: Jean-Paul Sartre quote A terrorised nation or person can decide to mirror this terrorism or decide not to. The rights of man are not at issue here, for everyman or woman is free even under the harshest regime. It's what they decide to do under these circumstances that define them. Sartre never said freedom meant a long life he just said we can do what we like and remember 'hell is other people' . When asked by one of his students if he should join the french resistance sartre gave him a response along the lines of do what's right for you. His message or definition of freedom differs greatly from a US perspective which is fairly limited and often blames other's for their regulated and controlled nation. Sartre's works offer a perspective today's philosopher's don't and rather than discuss the linguistics of freedom he went for the bullseye and gave a deeper message that is often missed by most extracts or quotes taken from his works. 7 Reply WILL, Ice planet 7/13/09 re: Commission On Freedom Of The Press quote The only counter to the giants of the media infrastucture is the internet. The airwaves are monitored, policed and controled by their owners. The internet differs only on the basis it's too vast to monitor, police have yet to grip the flow of information and the owners of websites have not all become controlled by their sponsors and commercial relationships. Freedom of speech has died since people started mistaking the definition of tolerance and political correctness went inverted and chased down all that isn't in line with modern thought.
