L. Richardson quote The difference between a thief and a politician is simple. A thief goes to jail when he steals from you and a politician gets reelected. 2 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/29/11 re: Glenn Harlan Reynolds quote I can't imagine anyone on this site supporting Hillary, with the possible exception of Reston and Waffler. As to the quote, our government has paid no heed to the people for many years, the current administration being the worst in that regard. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/28/11 re: Mark Skousen quote Reston, if you aren't a Communist you'll do till we can find one. The alphabet group in the above quote should be eliminated but only as a good start. 4 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/28/11 re: Lysander Spooner quote Drug laws are a perfect example of vices as opposed to crimes. These laws have, however, created lots of jobs, jail constuction, prison guards, drug courts, and thousands of DEA cops to name only a few. When this insane "war on drugs" is finally over, the world will be a far better and more peaceful place. 1 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/28/11 re: Lew Rockwell quote Reston and Jay Cross, remember the old saw, "It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than open it and remove all doubt". You can say the same thing for print as your comments prove. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/25/11 re: Ralph Waldo Emerson quote Sort of like when a bureaucrat says that he's from the government and only wants to help you. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/25/11 re: Ulysses S. Grant quote Jack, yes ,Grant was a unionist general in Lincoln's war of aggression against the South. Over 600,000 men died because Lincoln wanted centralized power in Washington. As to the "Great Emancipator" freeing the slaves, Lincoln only "freed" the slaves in the States that wanted to seceed. This war was primarily about secession, not about freeing any slaves. The South got all the flak about slavery but it actually started in the Northern states. 1 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/23/11 re: Mark Skousen quote Summed up perfectly in two short sentences. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/23/11 re: Dr. Mary J. Ruwart quote Dr Tom's hope that the IRS "keeps up the pressure" is like hoping that Al Capone would keep up the pressure on the businesses they "protected" back in Chicago. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/23/11 re: Dan Smoot quote J and Mike summed it up very well. 3 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/21/11 re: Paul Craig Roberts quote How on earth could you say it any plainer. This quote sums it up perfectly, something to remember as we approach April Fools Day on April 15th. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/21/11 re: Adam Smith quote When it's extorted, it ceases to be beneficence. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/18/11 re: Jimmy Hoffa quote What, no comments from Komrad Reston ? Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/18/11 re: Franklin D. Roosevelt quote Wrong again Reston ,you can't even agree with one of your Lib buddies. Don't be late for the Party meeting tonight, Komrad. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/17/11 re: Milton Friedman quote The main function of unions is to keep out competition. Texas is a right to work state and we have probably the best economy in the country now. We also have no state income tax , thank goodness. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/17/11 re: Milton Friedman quote In New York City there are about 3000 teachers that are so incompetent that they aren't allowed to teach. Also, thanks to the teachers unions, the still are paid and aren't allowed to be fired. Think of it, teachers being paid not to teach. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/17/11 re: Milton Friedman quote Jitendra, read Mike's reply again, he said the truth. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/16/11 re: Ronald Reagan quote How about outsourcing the government to the people who run Wal-Mart. They have built the biggest company on earth and would certainly know more about running things than that bunch of lawyers in congress. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/16/11 re: Thomas Jefferson quote When Lyndon ran for congress he was defeated by about 3000 votes, A recount changed all that and he was elected by 48 votes. Thus the name "Landslide Lyndon". In Duval County, famous for being the last county in Texas to report in elections, quite a few dead democrats rose from their graves and voted in the recount and several ballot boxes mysteriously disappeared , later to be found in the river. Duval County was totally democrat, including the sheriff and the judges. Thus, one of the crookedist of all politicians was on his way to becoming president. Read "A Texan Looks at Lyndon" by J. Evetts Haley for more on Johnson. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/15/11 re: Richard Feynman quote Waffler ,wrong again. This country has a spending problem and the last thing we need is more taxes. Lower taxes would fuel the economy and help get us out of this depression created by both Republicans and Democrats. The answer is to cut spending and taxes and get rid of most government bureaus. Getting rid of the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Education, The Department of Energy, HUD, OSHA, and the EPA would be a good start. Then these bureaucrats would have to find honest work. 1 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/15/11 re: Josiah Quincy quote The American sheeple, most anyway, will give up freedom for security everytime. Then ,eventually, they will have neither. 1 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/15/11 re: James Madison quote Ernie said it well. 3 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/14/11 re: Daniel Webster quote Old "Honest Abe" wasn't much in for any States seceeding and thus the war of Northern aggression. Waffler , what on earth is a "secessh state". 1 Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 3/10/11 re: Amilcare Puviani quote A great example of a "temporary tax" is the payroll deduction tax which was supposed to finance WW2 which ended in 1945,the war, not the tax. This was meant to end after the war but the government loved it since they could bleed the suckers(us) a little at a time and we would hardly notice it. That's when we got the term"take home pay".
