I respect truth, for it stands the test of time, against all who seek to pull power to themselves. There are many today that build their castles on the sand of tearing down others. When they are asked what they believe, there is no comment other than the other guy is wrong. Some logic this is. One is truly free when they respect anothers beliefs, not because they believe them to be true, but because the other person does believe them to be true. We have nothing to fear except fear itself. It is individuals seeking power over others and glory that bring good organzations down. who turn groups of people into selfish, self serving problem causing clans. 1Reply w dornth, arizona 12/17/07 re: Thomas Y. Bayard quote Our Religious liberty is of such importance in this country that if given up the country will certainly decay and self distruct. We must not let our government become the giver of all, the dispenser of all rewards, the solver of all problems, the great objective of our individual lifes. Sometimes our elected officials feel they know what is best for each of us, rather than be servants of the people they desire to be their masters. We must always be prepared to defend our liberty from all who attack it. Reply w dornth, Arizona 12/14/07 re: Menander quote I know a lot of very smart people that have no wisdom. They constantly fill their minds with facts but no not how to apply the information. Wisdom then is the constructive use of information for the good of all mankind. When one is wise, they are strong, yet they are kind because they are sure of themselves. A quality seldom observed now. 2 Reply w dornth, Arizona 12/14/07 re: Merry Browne quote I agree, maybe that is why are current presidential candadates don't look so good. They promises everything to get our vote, knowing that the public is too foolish to see a fake. Once they get into office the forget about the public anyway so why would they keep a promise to them. Seems we have lost leaders of honesty and replace them with dreamers. Reply w dornth, Arizona 12/14/07 re: Plutarch quote Right! a person comes into this world and starts gathering kindling (ideas, observations, learning etc). So the mind is filled and replunished daily. Don't kid yourself, you can't start a fire without kindling, in the forest or in the mind. A person must "think" upon a subject first. Then a spark sets a fire of action in his mind. Sparks can come from many sources. All of us have had a special teacher spark our mental kindling. Some won't admit it however. 1 Reply w dornth, Arizona 12/14/07 re: Georg Christoph Lichtenberg quote Although the statement is powerful and I agree with it there is a mistake in the simple reading of it. It is impossible at first or last step to literally question everything. There is just too much information and many people to due that. If one really trys to question everything, one will never make the next step. One must have a degree of trust in others, the good judgement to know who can be trusted, and face the reality that you must constantly review your own judgement of who you can trust and why you can trust them. In a perfect world the statement is true, but in the world of today, one must realize people change, and not always for the better.
