They do not lead to liberation.” ~ Adi Shankaracharya (c. 650) Hindu reformer Freedom , Media , Politics , Religion , Liberty Ratings and Comments Reply Lalit Pise, Mumbai 12/26/06 Reply Mike, Norwalk 12/26/06 Reply Logan, Memphis, TN 12/26/06 The true Christian would agree with this, because only the atonement of the Christ can liberate; everything else is merely a guide/medium (bible, prayer, the spoken word, personal 'revelation', etc.) to help a person find their way. To an atheist, there is no liberation, because there is nothing to be liberated from. Loud speech is just that, loud speech; profusion of words are spoken organized accidents (Yes, I do realize the oxymoron of "organized accidents") billions of years in the making (the history of speech). But, in order to keep in line with atheistic thought, the only 'enjoyment' that can be felt is when certain chemicals are released into the body to create a euphoric feeling; however, all of these euphoric feelings cannot be really classified euphoric, because of relativity, personal perception, and error. To any other religious sect, shouldn't these words carry the same basic meaning as they would to Christians? That is, except for the reliance on the atonement? For instance: Buddhists do not need loud speech or profusion of words to attain their liberation from the strings of this world into nirvana. Reply Bob, Eugene, OR 12/26/06 Religionists seek liberation from reality. No thanks. Reply Mike, Norwalk 12/27/06 Logan, well said. Bob, I would not consider myself a religionist but I hope I don't have to dwell in your reality. LOL, I assume by your thumbs down you like "Loud speech, profusion of words, and possessing skillfulness in expounding scriptures" as they are for the enjoyment of the learned and they lead to liberation. Its kinda funny how the Christians agree with the statement and the ? doesn't. Reply Anonymous, Reston, VA US 12/27/06 Zowie, for someone who condems a profusion of words, Logan certainly had a few... makes ya' think, eh? (well... makes some of us think at least ;-) Reply E Archer, NYC 12/27/06 It might be nice if some of the self-appointed preachers around here could take a hint with this quote instead of constantly plugging their religion (as if we haven't heard it over and over and over). God's grace is his to give, not ours to claim as 'mine'. Reply Joe, Rochester, MI 1/2/07 "Loud speech, profusion of words, and possessing skillfulness in expounding scriptures..." could be Congress if you change scriptures to law.
