That's true. Then 'people' wonder why when they come out, the prisoners end up back in prison. BECAUSE they are not taught anything on how to survive on the outside. And that's really sad.

The system is to brutally break down the individual (more so in prison, less so out). Willing slaves are easier to control.

Not true. Prisons supply 3 hot meals and a cot. Throw in the free medical and dental along with free college education and calculate what it is worth. Federal law says each prisoner must have 65 square feet of bunk personal space. I was only allotted 40 when I was in the military. Why do so many return to prison? Because it is not horrible enough to keep them out.

And people say government never gets anything right! I think the last sentence of Mr. Hoffa’s statement sums it up. Except most animals are not deserving of the cage.

cal, your 3 meals and a cot describes an animal in a cage's existence. The medical, dental and education you calculate is substandard to the rest of the socialist system (which is in constant decay). The cost ? What is the cost of freedom, or the lack thereof in the religionist's socialistic justice ? The greater part of society has been incarcerated (mentally, intellectually, spiritually, etc. under the same standard you equate to the prisoners - only at a different level) Bobble's "Critiquing's easy -- solving ain't !" is very accurate. I fought for law, freedom, justice and rights in court for years, only to see the courts and their lackeys in the ever expanding police state becoming more and more corrupt. I console myself knowing I've helped a few - while the vast majority go down the socialist rabbit hole. The greek concept of justice / incarceration had more to do with education than breaking the will of an individual and punishing. Is breaking the person down and punishing more the answer to a more charitable and integrates person ? By way of history, I don't think so, but ? ? As per the Greek, how and what should be educated ? ? Again, back to Bobble's "Critiquing's easy -- solving ain't !"

Here's the thing: the legal system has been hijacked. Today's prisons are run by defense contractors. A police state needs criminals to pay government salaries -- what do we do if crime statistics start to drop? Make more laws! Sure, murderers and rapists deserve to reap what they have sown -- but they are a small minority of those arrested every year -- you can't seize the assets of a murderer, but you can seize a house if a pot seed is found in it.

Zero tolerance is perpetual war. I am sick and tired of people demanding their government play god to make others 'obey.' That is not what America is about.

I think they have it too good.
