“Order is not pressure which is imposed on society from without but an equilibrium which is set up from within.”

Absolutely ! Pressure which is imposed on society from without is despotism and tyranny. An example I've used previous is the difference between law and order. It is a law of right that one may travel from point A to B and/or from point B to A. The structuring of the law brings order. Order facilitates motion on the left or the right. Order then from within, allows safe passage and a lawful experience for all. If it were law to drive on the left, those that drove on the right would all be dead. One example of despotic without is when license or other forced (pressure) anti-freedom compels compliance.

Mike,
This is a Hayekian statement but it is too short to be of any value. It doesn't say why. Truisms don't teach. He might as well have said.
Hurray for Hayek.

In order to bring about " why ". Natural law, or Gods laws of nature are ordered, to bring about his reveling of himself to man. Self declaration. As Israel is sagacious, erudite and prolix so are we. Not to hide, but to declare.

Harmonious order, like a song, has a rhythm and a melody that I may dance to and even sing along with. If you don't like the beat, change the tune. There is never a shortage of songs to sing or improvise, and we can enjoy different types of music. Harmony requires musicians agreeing and playing in tune. It's hard! Some notes just don't go together, and everyone but the tone deaf knows it when they hear it. But wonderful music moves people and creates worlds. Music is not music unless it is ordered harmoniously -- in harmony with natural law. Bending the right notes is a way of playing the song, but bend them too far and it hurts people's ears. ;-)
