Mark Twain Quote

“Duties are not performed for duty's sake, but because their neglect would make the man uncomfortable. A man performs but one duty -- the duty of contenting his spirit, the duty of making himself agreeable to himself.”

Can be, not necessarily. When my children were small, duties were performed from love, joy and wanting to. Even the middle of the night / early morning was joyfully agreeable to me. So, by personal experience, I recognize the trait but, it is not universal.
