I'm not sure this is true anymore. The sword, used long enough and not so much that it's obvious, kills the spirit.

But if used for a great length of time, the sword feeds the spirit. Thus.. in the end... the spirit will always subdue the sword

hmm, the spirit here would have to be defined but, OK, I'll go along with that. Love, truth, and other absolutes will eventually raise their head (individual and/or in concert) to arrest evil when it becomes sufficiently unbearable.

The spirit is as much in need of being 'armed' as an army, only the weapons are the eternal truths that empower the spirit.  Trumpets brought down the walls of Jericho — if one is on the side of right, victory is already yours.  That is the way of the Spirit.
