Today's trio of quotes is really a downer. The light that shines forth, sadly, is the theory behind divine right monarchy. An elite, selected by God, will run things. Go to church, trust in God, pay your taxes, shut up. It had a lot going for it as long as things worked well enough. Just don't ask Louis XVI, Charles the first, fill in the blank.

Kinda funny, way too true. It would have been more accurate if it had stated that the world is criminally managed by criminals while the executive, legislative, judicial, and the government's tabloid media complex are so corrupt, one hardly knows to whom to complain

Complaining probably doesn't do much good anyway, probably a waste of time. A wise man once told me never to tell others your troubles, most of them don't care and the others are glad you're getting what's coming to you.

My thoughts go directly to "Bureaucracies". A Stalinist invention designed to control you and keep you from having any recourse whatever...unless you're unbelievably rich and connected that is...

Beware of those that pretend to be advocates of the disadvantaged as they will report you to the government for complaining. Or, worse, they have access to the complaint files so they know who the troublemakers are - a precursor to 1984 and the curse of today.

This was not later than 1926. The world is not like that anymore. Of course it does still and always will have pessimists and optimists. Some things never change!. Remember that other British quote, and I paraphrase: "The Sun is in the sky, the King is on The Throne, God is in his Heaven and all's right with the world". Bureaucracies in the USA were started in the latter half of the 1800's to end the predatory and unprofessional spoils system, whcih involved appointing political and untrained hacks and good ole boys to run things. "Boys" who could be had and manipulated by power and money. The Federal Bureau system brought a pride and untouchability to government. Professional civil service and job tenure brought competence to government. One of the best bureaucrats was Elliot Ness and his untouchables. What people hate most about bureaucrats is simply that they do they professional best under the law and are not "touchable" or swayed to disobey the law by people would want their own way or to do their own thing regardless of the law or legality.

Actually Waffler, Bureacracy removes the aspect of accountibility and responsibility from those who run it. Tyranny in a nutshell.

Yeah, J that you and Al Capone are in the same camp and think alike. He knew Eliott Ness to be a tyrannical unforgiving guy also. Sometimes I guess "tyranny" is a go thing! Just like Hitler who called Roosevelt the biggest tyrant and war criminal ever. Pick your sides man, for you I guess it is Capone and Hitler those two haters of bureaucratic tyranny.

Waffler you are made of drivel. This is an exellent quote with a great sense of humor.

If a guy can write a novel and put words into a characters mouth and then the words can be quoted as some source of philosophical attitude of great import then I belive it is also okay for any and all to drivel or drool over it all they want. We nothing about the apparent fictional character who uttered these words, he may have been insane or on death row for all that we know. Warren thinks it is funny, some may think it sick, sad, dark or gallows humour. Warren certainly has no lock on what is funny and certainly not on what is scientific. Don't read my words Warren and you will then be much happier in your ignorance.
