The phrase, "under the direction of the court", substantially weakens the latitude of the jury, it seems to me. Judges with political debts and ideologies are entrenched in positions to instruct and influence juries.

I definitely like the second to last paragraph in Mort's post, to wit: Honest people don't need laws and dishonest people won't obey laws... TRUE DAT!
