Bob, I'm not so sure that the quote is misunderstood. Your explanation makes perfect sense and is exactly what I already believed Rockefeller's quote to mean. The fact that Rockefeller is looking at individuals who have glorious, amazing potential to shine as authors, artists, poets, statesmen, as simply cogs in a corporate wheel is the problem with his statement. The human soul is destined for so much more than just fulfilling a rich man's vision by standing in a factory all day long. The fact that he set about reforming the public education system to churn out human automatons is exactly what is disturbing.
