He should have made pottery and kept his madness to himself. 1Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/17/06 re: Isaiah Berlin quote I can guess what our drug-abusing faction might say, but despite his fame and talent, Berlin is suffering from a mental disorder due to which he is incapable of seeing that some behaviors really should not be tolerated. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/17/06 re: Lysander Spooner quote You are out of your mind if you cannot see that the effect is exactly the same. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/17/06 re: Lysander Spooner quote The founders recommended carrying arms for two principal reasons: To serve as a deterrence to potential tyranny in government and to protect themselves against attack in the wilderness areas where the legal institutions could not protect them. This is not my opinion. This is based on the writings of the founders, their articles and correspondence. If they expected us to defend ourselves against attack, they would clearly expect us to defend ourselves against impaired drivers. I think repeat offenders should be shot. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/16/06 re: Lysander Spooner quote Poppycock, E. Archer, well articulated sophism. And, Terry, you should learn to be judgmental before it's too late. Would someone please explain the difference between acts and behavior? Oh, there is no difference? Well, that means E. Archer is still wrong. 3 Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/15/06 re: George Orwell quote Going with the majority opinion often is not the right thing to do. Going against it can often be the right thing to do. But going against it just because it is the status quo makes no sense. Sometimes the orthodox stance is also the correct one. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/14/06 re: Neil A. McDonald quote Suppression of WHAT is foolish? Suppression of public nudity? Suppression of speeding drivers? Suppression of corruption of the morals of minors? Suppression of libel? Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/13/06 re: Billie Holiday quote What would Billie say about the many thousands of alcohol-related traffic deaths? 2Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/13/06 re: John Stuart Mill quote Mill is not justifying drug abuse, as some of those commenting here have erroneously concluded. Drug abuse affects non-users. We live in a society that wants drugs not to be abused, as it affects everybody. Mill would agree that drug abuse is harmful to everyone. 12Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/13/06 re: Abraham Lincoln quote Millions are addicted to illicit drugs. Many more millions are addicted to legal drugs. Prohibition is a great idea that does not work. But drug abuse should certainly be a crime, as it has a direct damaging effect on much of society in various aspects. When Lincoln expressed this quote, the United States was not under concentrated attack by drug traffickers, as it is today. Drug traffickers should be shot on sight, even if they are members of Congress. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/9/06 re: Heinrich Hoffmann quote In fact, Hitler was not Christian. Having ties with a church does not make one a Christian. Making such claims as those above of Terry Berg, however, does make one a slanderer. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/7/06 re: John F. Kennedy quote All quotes are out of context, but we respond to them within a context. And if we don't have an agenda, someone else will impose his agenda. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/7/06 re: John F. Kennedy quote This obvious truth is only semi-articulated and out of context. Another part of it might be expressed by saying "Justice implies refusing to allow the intolerable to persist." Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/7/06 re: Edwin Way Teale quote I agree, even though the truth is often as unavailable as money. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/7/06 re: William Penn quote We the people overthrew George lll. We the people set up a new nation. And we the people have the right and the duty, according to the Declaration of Independence, to abolish our government and establish a new one, if we find the necessity to be present. We are above the government. 1Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/6/06 re: William Penn quote Evil is what almost everyone does on a daily basis. Blame the government, if you wish, but you are the government, especially if your only complaints are written as responses to quotes on this site. Blame the people, if you happen to be paying attention to what practically the whole world is doing. Blame yourself, if you live in a modern industrial society, drive a car, run air conditioners, and erroneously claim that one president is better than another. Modern man is evil almost by definition. His impact on his world, every aspect of it, is evil. His intentions, plans, acts, thoughts, and legacy are evil. 14Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/6/06 re: Thomas Paine quote That we have 54 congressional representatives who are registered members of the Socialist Party, in clear violation of their oath of office to defend the United States Constitution against all enemies, is evidence enough that we are far too lenient. Add to that the miillions of violent offenders who walk the streets, instead of the prison yards, and it makes the quote seem extremely archaic. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 3/3/06 re: Eric Hoffer quote Well, what should a benevolent governor do, when so many of the sheep are really goats, and they refuse to govern themselves with respect respecting others rights? In fact, men are inadequate to govern themselves, or others. Too many men will not do what they should unless obligated by a force outside themselves. Of course there are tyrants. And there are pirates, mustangs, and bad boys, too, who collectively cause as much disturbance and disorder as any tyrant. Have a great day anyway. 2 Reply David L. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 2/24/06 re: Robert Reich quote All of this is causing me to experience a terrible crisis. I am going to take two aspirin and call Bush in the morning. Actually, I believe war is inevitable. The enemy, however, should be whoever is a supporter of tyranny. Which means that there are lots of enemies in all branches of our government, as well as in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and major cities throughout the United States. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 2/24/06 re: George W. Bush quote Er, uh...if Bush bombed the Twin Towers, who got the Arabs to fy the planes? And where does Osama fit into the picture. Was he a Bush apointee? Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 2/24/06 re: George Herbert Walker Bush quote I heard George speak those words on that day, and I knew there was something wrong, though at the time I did not understand what was happening to the extent that I do today. I support the war against terrorism, but realize that those directing it must be leashed. Reply David L. Rosenthal, Hollywood 2/23/06 re: Franklin D. Roosevelt quote 9/11 will look like a day in the park if the Moslems are allowed to manage our east coast's ports. Reply David L.
