I think TJ was an amazing Founder.

My children and I marched yesterday with the Tea Party groups in the 4th of July parade and we were proud Americans to do so. Wake UP Americans!!! This document is brilliant and TJ worked long and hard to get the verbiage down perfectly!

Progress, the way you mean, is the Progressive movement. Yes, they've done things, but not for our country, for themselves. For individual power, not individual liberty. Many liberals and lefty conservatives would love continuous hand outs, so if that is the progress your speaking of, you can have it. Nothing is perfect, but Liberalists are at least running away from the "norm", which has been a slow death for at least 60+ years. "The discovery of freedom" is a read for you, D, Fort Worth. There is a reason we alone have succeeded in "freedom". I for one don't want Obama, or more appropriately, Pelosi, to toss it all in the garbage for socialism. That's just me.

He is absolutely right, which is why we are the only successfully free country (or were) and people get lazy and lolled into the government will do everything for us, bologna, and next thing you know we are socialists, which looks good on paper but it slowly eats away at our liberties. IE: judicial legislator. I agree with Rush, I am praying for B.O. to fail so we can get back to capitalism.

I think it's interesting to end the blame at Reagan, John Adams had similar problems as the second president, we are repeating but the repeating did'nt start at Reagan. What strong opinions here today. No one man can be blamed for our countires position. John uses the term "men" meaning many men.

I agree Jim, but it does seem someone else is doing a lot of "bitching". Money is needed to run a country but when we gave congress to much power we changed the meaning to parts of the Constitution. ie: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Yes, Hayek here is referring to the "general welfare" of the US citizens which has so clearly been watered down and abused that the average person has no clue what it is anymore. When you ask someone to take care of you, you better know their motives...
