Murphey quote I think you have all said it! Abraham and Constantine have a lot to answer for. The answer I don't know, but it's definitely not some theocratic school. Morality has nothing to do with religion. Each religion and belief system has its precepts - for instance the Ten Commandments were written in many earlier forms and most roughly say the same thing. If we are going to teach mythology then we should include all known groups. Children should be spared the rod.... Reply Robert, St. Emilion, France 8/14/14 re: Democritus quote Mike (Norwalk) Excellent! we really do think alike....Mike (Pleasant Hill), the two are often combined...By the way, tell me more on the war against Christianity... does this refer to both Evangelicals and Catholics...? Reply Robert, St. Emilion, France 8/14/14 re: Democritus quote Mike look around you... this quote is ONLY to do with one of many reasons for greed, period! It's the same reason that America invades other countries - there excuse is one of humanity, an excuse which couldn't be further from the truth... Reply Robert, St. Emilion, France 8/14/14 re: Erik H. Erikson quote Thanks Mike (Norwalk) Looking after the sick and disabled is not a matter of constitutional dictates but a matter of civilization and well being for the communities we inhabit. And for the other nationalistic comment; the American people are generous, but the American government has been and still is the most imperialistic and the most destroying of nations than any since WWll. Please do your research and you will see that all American incursion have been for self interest, either resources, keeping the dollar as the world currency, drugs, mineral deposits, and so on. America will take us all into WWlll - their re-invasion of Iraq has nothing to do with humanitarian reason's, but to secure the oil fields and create a Kurdistan. The ISIS terrorist's, America created (like Al Qadda), in the past week or so captured the Erbil oil fields in northern Iraq - two of the largest oil fields in Iraq. Turn the coin and you will see a very different picture. And as for the Ukraine - American interference again, it was the military (another American puppet) that shot the plane down - and who knows they may have tried to shoot down Putin's plane which was very close at the time. Please American do your home work and learn the truth about your beautiful country and what carnage they are creating around the world. GAZA, well that's another page in England and Americas dark history. Lets hope America and Israel back off their march to war. Peace brothers..... The problem in America is the last sentence, because until Americans do recognize they are living in an autocratic society things will remain the same - go back to sleep America, everything is OK. There are those such as on this page that do recognize and it is up to us to change things... To start with, stop all private and corporate funding of politicians. And secondly, bring all American troops home and shut down the 750 military bases around the world. Lastly, provide healthcare for all citizens - the caveat here is that the Healthcare system must be changed because it is rife with corruption. The saving alone from a well managed system would easily pay for healthcare for all. You are bound by their prejudice - you are not free to think for yourself - you are a slave.... 1 Reply Robert, St. Emilion, France 8/12/14 re: Hartley Coleridge quote Ron, excellent! When you are good, like when you tell the truth, both have the reward to be free. One of conscience and the other of memory.... Reason: Robert Blinch-Edwards living at the time in Sarasota hence RBESRQ. Perhaps RBE would enlighten me... My email is robken16@gmail.com. As for this quote, we must ALWAYS remember the key to happiness is the "Middle Way"...... Reply Robert, St. Emilion, France 8/12/14 re: Hartley Coleridge quote Wow! "...A universal licence to be good." Now that is what Freedom is - If you have never read his fathers (Samuel Taylor Coleridge) poems, read him and you will understand. 3 Reply Robert, St. Emilion, France 8/8/14 re: John D. Reply Robert, St. Emilion, France 8/8/14 re: John Adams quote A beautiful statement but, without some of the rest the science of government becomes tyrannical. First and foremost must be the study of ethics, for without ethics it's continues the cycle of war.... Reply Robert, St. Emilion, France 8/7/14 re: John Swett quote There are many fabulous teachers as there are many fabulous parents alas the two never meet. Teachers are not the problem it's what they are told to teach which is the problem. As for authority, well, I see many situations where it's in the child's best interest to be at school away from the parents - and in many cases the child's only meal. The relationship between parent and child is not always beneficial - there's a fabulous line in the film "Lion in Winter" as the three sons of Henry ll are plotting against their father - Henry runs out of the bedroom shouting 'I'm going to kill my sons' and then Eleanor (played by Catherine Hepburn) turns to camera and utters these famous words 'even the best family's have their ups and downs.' "Collectivism" must never rule over the individuals inalienable rights.... As the old saying goes (we are not free as long as one individual is enslaved" or something like that.
