Fascism (so-called right wing) and Communism/socialism (so-called left wing) aren't opposites — they're forms of the same horrible beast called TOTAL GOVERNMENT. 
The true indicator of free vs tyrannical governments is a straight line, with total government (fascism, socialism, communism, etc.) on the Left side, and no government (anarchy) on the Right. Freedom and Constitutional government lie to the right of middle. More freedom means less government. More government means less freedom. Both left and right extremes are bad.
