I find the discussion of whether Obama or Bush was the biggest abuser just pathertic and simple minded. The problem is NOT Republicans or Democrats, it is politicians in general. It doesn't matter who is in the oval office. Whichever candidate happens to win is immaterial, since they both have been selected by the shadow government consisting of big business. A politician who places his constituency first has no hope of achieving national office in this country.

'indict anyone he wants' did not work very well when my mom (at age 60) sat on the Grand Jury. They were trying to indict a guy for some drug charge where there were numerous co-conspirators, all of whom were cops. By the time she was done, mom had the jury ready to indict the cops and thank the perpetrator. Doubtful she will be called again...

"Lawful Authority" has nothing to do with freedom (except to limit it). Freedom is all about the individual making sensible decisions about interactions with others in such a way that others are not harmed and that 'lawful authority' is not necessary to preserve the rights and freedoms of others. Of course this is a utopian viewpoint and quite unreasonable in a society where the priority of the majority of individuals is to get whatever they can for themselves however they can get it and others be damned. Our indivvidual (and corporate) lack of consideration for others is what makes 'lawful authority' and the loss of individual freedoms to that authority a necessity in any real society.

SO, to summarize: rational people favor gun control and illiterate cretins favor gun ownership ?? I certainly hope this guy is not in charge of anything that matters. Fear the government that fears your guns.

I'd like to see a politifact analysis or some hard numbers on some of these claims. 1) "more people are killed in hunting accidents than other sorts of firearms accidents" Around here hardly month goes by without some child getting hold of a parent's gun and killing or injuring another child. 2) "more children are killed playing with lighters than playing with loaded guns" Maybe these claims are true, but personally I doubt it. And I'm NOT in favor of gun control.

Methinks this 'opinion' of nearly half of the US public is the result of a flawed survey. I certainly would not like to see the government redistribute MY wealth, but I also feel strongly that one of the few legitimate functions of government is to provide a level playing field for all citizens. That means for example, a flat tax on gross income (if we must tax income at all), NO preference for corporations and especially corporations with operations outside the US that allow them to 'cook the books' to reduce their US tax obligation, and no legal inequalities based on income level or anything else. Most people wouldn't be callling for a redistribution of weath if the ability to accumulate and keep wealth were equal for all.

Well, Snyder redeems himself with this comment. The founding fathers knew all too well from personal experience the risk to liberty that results from having a government that is stronger and better armed than its citizens.

I certainly agree with the author's point that schools mold the child's world view into a pattern controlled by the educators, but I am curious when he starts talking about the robber barons and unregulated capitalism. Just because the points he mentions are taught to (most) all schoolchildren in the US and become part of their world view, does that mean he thinks that the robber barons DID NOT exploit the working class or that unregulated capitalism and wall street speculation DID NOT cause the great depression ?

I would be interested to know the source of this quote, if it actually exists. It sounds to me like one of a few other quotes that have appeared here which could never be documented as having been made by the person to whom they are attributed. And please, spare us the interpretation. You could have stopped with...'Founded the order of the Illuminati on May 1, 1776.' World Domination - BAH - thankfully these 'Illuminati' are too busy pushing each other aside to get at the trough to do any credible job of world domination.

Taken as it stands, without the history of the JBS coloring it, the quote looks pretty good to me. I see nothing in it that makes it easier for someone to rape the environment or that would enable a small group of greed men to gain ascendency. And it is a good quote for another reason -- just look at the healthy discussion it has inspired here.

I'd like to see a little more of the context for this one. What combination is here to stay ?
