I just found out that main-line Media was very influential in the Supreme Courts decision to allow the unfettered corporate funding of politicians - I wonder why?????? 3Reply Anonymous 8/24/10 re: Alan Bullock quote Marxism is the opposite to Starlin's grotesque rule. Reply Anonymous 8/24/10 re: Friedrich Nietzsche quote Mike, Jesus, was a great guy - liberal to the core. He went round in rags, fed the poor, cured the ill, and never requested payment (and of course that's not the American way that's socialism) I still believe Jesus was the reincarnation of Buddha. Reply Anonymous 8/23/10 re: Friedrich Nietzsche quote It's amazing, every time we go after dictators that there is plenty of OIL and other natural resorces. The ONLY honorable war was WWll (and even then it took two years before the US entered the frey) but unfortunately corporations realized that there is profit to be made in wars - socialism at its finest taking the largest part of our tax dollars and giving it to the money hungry federal program and priavte contractoes called our MILITARY with no strings attached - what a wonderful socialist program - why don'y you anti socialists and tea baggers shout about THAT! Reply Anonymous 8/23/10 re: Friedrich Nietzsche quote Jim, Christians are no different its just that we have laws for those sort of things - perhaps one day they too will have the same kind of laws. I have met many Muslims and most are not as you explain. Mike, well done, good comment. The key here is to fight hate and intolerance with kindness - I'm sure if we built schools, roads, and hospitals, the result would be a lot different to the killing we are now experiencing. In Iraq they now have the worst unemployment, mental disease, hunger, a destroyed infrastructure, 50 percent have no schooling, and this is what you call giving them Democracy? - give me a break - how dumb are we to believe this $&%#(*& as bad as Saddam was it was way better - it was a secular state and women had the most freedom than any other middle eastern country, they had the best health care in the Middle East, Gays were not hunted down and brutally murdered, they had electricity 24/7 and education was one of the best in the middle east. Plus they have huge areas uninhabitable which were once thriving communities. And you call this giving the people freedom. Now those countries that have dictators are saying to the US "don't invade us we are OK" 3 Reply Anonymous 8/23/10 re: Alexander Hamilton quote The reason America is so apathetic. "If society fits you comfortably enough, you call it freedom." Robert Frost Reply Anonymous 8/21/10 re: Edmund Burke quote Take god, greed, and intolerance out of the aquasion, back to a truely secular state, and things will immediatel improve both morally and economically. 2Reply Anonymous 8/21/10 re: Winston Churchill quote Well, if Vermont is called a socialist state I'm all for it. 4 Reply Anonymous 8/20/10 re: Paul Proctor quote Applicable to America today which is ruled by the corporate elete and its paid whores (politicians) both of which are protected by its military. And you thought the military was here to protect your freedom... Since WWll that has been the situation and that's even questionable... Reply Anonymous 8/19/10 re: Winston Churchill quote As America has socialism for the rich Churchill has a point and he should know he lost a fortune here. 3Reply Anonymous 8/19/10 re: Samuel Adams quote Yet we still watch Fox Entertainment and allow Palin and her cohort's air time - absolutely amazing.... Reply Anonymous 8/19/10 re: Edmund Burke quote The French had a good answer for this... 2Reply Anonymous 8/18/10 re: H. L. Mencken quote Sad that such a clever man should say such a stupid statement as it misrepresents honesty and integrity Reply Anonymous 8/18/10 re: Alexis de Tocqueville quote Unknown, you obviously has no idea what conservative progressives belive - you have been listening to Glen Beck and that is the problem with America - ignorance abounds.... If it wasn't for progressives we would still be in the dark ages, that's of course if America would still exist. Mike and Archer have the right idea though they miss one important argument and that is one of compassion. Without compassion life is still and meaningless. Reply Anonymous 8/18/10 re: H. L. Mencken quote It's sad the color grey is "almost" missing from our intellect. Reply Anonymous 8/18/10 re: Charles de Gaulle quote Correction: delete the word almost and apply to the next statement. Reply Anonymous 8/18/10 re: Charles de Gaulle quote The two words that provide this statement with five stars are "poses" and "almost" without them it would be a thumbs down. For it is the duty of all politicians to be the servant of the people. 1 Reply Anonymous 8/18/10 re: Alexis de Tocqueville quote We have passed that point - the wealthy one percent will hold on until they have totally liquidated the other 99 percent's assets, then they will run as fast as possible down the mooring lines and leave the cargo bins empty. Where the hell do you think they are stashing their ill-gotten wealth? not in America investing in new job creation but in tax havens abroad. Perhaps when they are all gone we can start to get our country back again. I have three words for America that will save you from the future onslaught of deprivation: local, local, and local. We know the problem, we now need solutions... Reply Anonymous 8/17/10 re: Robert A. Heinlein quote Above is the reason we (The US) will implode. The Constitution was and is to stop the majority ruling on the Natural rights of all people. Carol, yes, I can understand your comments, but they are in my opinion Fascist and without a true understanding of lifes rich and beautiful complexes - sad, really sad... 1 Reply Anonymous 8/17/10 re: Marcus Tullius Cicero quote Carol, before you make your final decision you should read the life of Cicero he was killed because he was part of the assination plot of Caesar. God kills and I don't want ANY part of that. Reply Anonymous 8/17/10 re: Heywood Broun quote Archer and Mike, I can always count on you to bring sense and sensibility to the blog (you know who I am). As for Carol and Carlton, enough said... Reply Anonymous 8/16/10 re: Robert A. Heinlein quote I'm visiting Vermont and here is a fine example how community living without the dictates of DC and corporate America creates its own economy - there is no labeling. I don't believe the general populous thinks like that they are more likey to fall into the category of intolerance period. Ignorance is our biggest enemy. 2 Reply Anonymous 8/16/10 re: Marcus Tullius Cicero quote He was a man full of self contradictions - ask Caesar. Reply Anonymous 8/16/10 re: Heywood Broun quote What planet are you on - they are exactly who needs free healthcare. Perhaps if we stop this ridiculous spending on corporate welfare we could afford social programs that actually save lives instead of killing people.
