Reply Anonymous, Reston, VA, US 2/8/11 Yes Mike, the GOP & the Tea Baggers do continually attempt to over simplify, denying the inherent interconnected web of life that is reality. Thankfully the Democratic party understands those complexities, sadly the electorate does not. Reply jim k, Austin,Tx 2/8/11 It's interesting ,Reston, that when the democrats win elections the electorate is well informed and brilliant. If they lose , the electorate is suddenly stupid. The truth is that the mess we are in was a bipartisan effort. The repubs and the dems are two sides of the same coin. As to the voters, 90 percent have no idea what's going on. Reply J Carlton, Calgary 2/8/11 We have a Constitution - Simple. We live in a Republic - Simple. We have inherent rights that are not subject to interpretation - Simple. We have no business meddling in foreign affairs - Simple. We have Communists masquerading as Liberals mindlessly chanting "yes we can, yes we can"...and boy oh boy are THEY Simple! Reply RBESRQ 2/8/11 Love it! Now, that is simple... Reply Simple is as Simple Does, Fresno 2/8/11 Reminds me of Sarah Palin and the fat giggly guys on the radio Reply E Archer, NYC 2/8/11 The over-simplification of complex realities leads to sound bites used to rally support. Then thousands of pages of regulations are implemented and one soon discovers that things are not as simple afterall. Yes, the interconnected web of life is a reality -- the idea that it requires the controlling of others is an over-simplification. No other creature needs pyramidal control structures to survive -- the idea that human life needs kings or councils is essentially the idea of kings and councils. Words like 'change' that are found on bumper stickers everywhere over-simplify -- what needs to be changed, and how, and at what cost, and on whose authority? Change the weather? How, why? What are the consequences? "Trust in God" -- very simple words for a very complex idea. The word God has different meanings for different people, with very different purposes. Collectives of all types, whether religious or political, are the usual proponents of simple slogans, but real wisdom comes from a depth of understanding the very complex world we live in. The word 'universe' is simple, and it is all inclusive; however, the universe is so complex in all of its details and the extent of its range that do we dare say we know how it 'should' be and try to 'fix' it?
