“Government is too big and too important to be left to the politicians.”

Right on Mr. Bowles! Unfortunately not enough people know beans about politics, so you can see where that leaves us. There are just too many stupid people for Democracy.

I think Bowles was one of the more sincere socialists. The quote rises to the level of a little comic relief.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers. We have a large number of them in Washington and at the voting booth.

... or to anyone! Government IS too big -- it has been gradually taking over the personal responsibilities of the citizens. Citizens will have to re-assume responsibility for themselves and cut the government out of it. We may not be sure that is what Bowles has in mind, though ... However, leaving government to the politicians is to put the fox in charge of the hen house.

It does seem that we have become the servants of our so called public servants.
