5 stars for the astute in the obvious and, thumbs down on the applied man's inhumanity to man. (-; kind of a catchy phrase, it just may catch on ;-)

Even Ben Franklin said that it would be indeed a punitive government that would impose more than a 10% tax on it's citizens...at a time when there his Continental was just going out of "fashion" due to the British finally counterfeiting it to effect in the Boston area, where it first failed...but it DID get us through the Revolution as baseless fiat currency, with faith in the nation alone backing it and was widely accepted til then. Private banking fiat systems be damned forever !

J Carlton, Calgary

While death and taxes are certainties, they are in no way affiliated. One is imposed by nature, the other by a group of corrupt and power hungry criminals.

One advantage to death, it only happens once while taxes occur every day. They are especially onerous around April 15th each year.

Waffler, Smith

So what don't we shut up about them and me mature men and accept what is natural. Living by the laws of nature "death and taxes" is healthy. Quit driving yourselves nuts by fighting against nature, especially you Mike.

J Carlton, Calgary

Waffler, you're a very sick man. The Nazi's could have used you...to run a concentration camp that is.

Mike, Norwalk

The category of payments for certain secular services falls under justifiable fiscal law (a natural law = that which is in harmony with the laws of nature and of nature's God) Income, property, and other compelled or otherwise enslaving extractions are against nature. All taxes are NOT equal. As J Carlton so correctly observes, you are a very sick individual ! especially with the psychotic inability to distinguish between slavery and liberty.

E Archer, NYC

I never liked this analogy. Simply a justification for putting up with tyranny. Live free or die!

GunnyCee, Durham

Waffler, you must be high again. You seem to be having a good time tweaking the noses of conservatives. However, you don't really contribute a lot to the overall sophistication of this forum. You keep repeating the same liberal dogma with no contribution to the expansion of knowledge that you would discover if you actually read the conservative contributions.

GunnyCee, Durham

Mike, what amazes me about today's situation in almost all it's many facets, is the amazing similarities of the 18th century. We've got all the same problems except for slavery. But we've just replaced that with the Welfare system.

Death is certain..Taxes.. If you're a Fortune 500 Company not so.

Mick, Manchester

Or if you're wealthy enough you can employ an accountant to 'avoid' paying taxes.
