True but what a stupid statement! Just don't tell this to Robin Hood.

J Carlton, Calgary

Fantastic way to state the obvious. Collective Social charity is straight up theft!

cal, lewisville, tx

How generous DC is when using OTHER peoples' money.

Anonymous, Reston, VA US

... and no one has ever claimed it is... this is just a weak attempt to cover up societial responsibility which is not the same as charity.

Mike, Norwalk

Real charity is from the heart, performed with glad tidings, from an individual's free choice, and is in accordance with each and every person's unalienable rights, the Laws of Nature and of Natures God and justice. Social responsibility is a false theological myth that is foundational code for compelled compliance, victimless crimes, authorized crimes creating victims, totalitarian violence and otherwise terror against the non-believer/slave participant, license, larceny with impunity, tyranny, despotism, slavery justification and all else that is antithetical to the individual sovereign's freedom, liberty, unalienable rights, law, and justice.

Anonymous, "Societal responsibility" is another way of saying it's okay to steal from one party and give it to another. And Waffler, I promise not to tell Robin Hood.

Mike, Norwalk

Waffler, I won't tell Robin Hood either. Waffler it sounds as though you honor Robin Hood and condone his methods. Does that mean if I shoot sheriffs, steal back government's ill gotten booty, and run around in tights :-), you'd justify my activities also.

zeitgeist, la crescenta, ca

Good point, Mike, and a great come-back. Nothing like a good laugh now and then.

E Archer, NYC

Except that government is not Robin Hood -- if only we could rob the rich politicians and give it BACK to those made poorer by their actions. Real charity is in fact ABUNDANT -- only the govt does not want you to know -- they want to be the end-all for everything -- except their 'cut' gets bigger and bigger 'til nothing trickles anywhere but into their own coffers.

Ken, Allyn, WA

Robin Hood stole the unlawfully collected taxes from King John and his Shire Reeves and gave it back to the people from whom it was taxed. Now that's a little justice I wouldn't mind seeing make a comeback.

King John was a pretender sort of like the two GW terms. Clsoe to fraudulent elections. He robbed us by putting us into trillions of dollars of debt and gave the money to his rich friends. I am totally against unlawfully collected taxes, but feel the governments should get every penny that they are entitled to under the law.

Mike, Norwalk

Under the current occupying statist theocracy's canons (Waffler's "under the law"), grand larceny is spelled 'T' 'A' 'X'. Waffler, the government is entitled ? ? ? The de jure body politic in the guaranteed republican form of government hires servants that have, as servants, NO rights / NO entitlements ! ! ! Waffler, your statement of entitlement makes the government a party in toto / absolutely separated, with no association, from We The People. The constitutionally limited body of servants is not god to an inferior herd of chattel.

HROMANO, Bangkok

Societal responsibility? I never met a society. Is it possible for a thing that does not exist to have a responsibility?

HROMANO, Bangkok

I agree with Waffler. I think that the government should get every penny that it is entitled to under the law. That amount just happens to be zero.

HROMANO, Bangkok

Robin Hood did not steal from the rich to give to the poor. He seized the unlawfully taken taxes and returned it to their rightful owners.
