Dwight D. Eisenhower Quote

“All of us have heard this term "preventive war" since the earliest days of Hitler. ... A preventive war, to my mind, is an impossibility today. How could you have one if one of its features would be several cities lying in ruins, several cities where many, many thousands of people would be dead and injured and mangled, the transportation systems destroyed, sanitation implements and systems all gone? That isn't preventive war; that is war. ... I don't believe there is such a thing; and, frankly, I wouldn't even listen to anyone seriously that came in and talked about such a thing.”

11 August 1954 news conference in response to a question from Ray L. Scherer, NBC: 'Mr. President, there seem to be increasing suggestions that we should embark on a preventive war with the Communist world, some of these suggestions by people in high places. I wonder, sir, if you would care to address yourself to that proposition.'

Wow. A president with real world experience whom people could respect. Obama should hang his Narcissist head in shame and resign.

J Carlton, Calgary

Byron, Obama is the CEO of United States Inc. He will not be providing any proof of his eligibilty nor will he hang his head in shame. He's doing the job he was put in place to do. 5 stars for the wisdom of the quote.

"Preventative war' is the same as 'preemptive action.' Now if we can just get the conservatives on board, our military can stop being used to kill brown people in order to protect 'American interests' in preserving the illicit opium trade and Unocal's oil pipeline in Afghanistan. Of course, when Obama dared to keep the military machine going in Libya, the Republicans rebuked him for doing what they do regularly. Then again, all seem to have forgotten that only Congress can declare war -- which it hasn't done since WWII. And how many wars have we been in since? The State legislatures must start protesting this abuse of power. Time for a Constitutional Convention.

Mike, Norwalk

And they shall hear of wars, and rumors of wars. . . . For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there shall be famine and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places. And again, because iniquity shall abound, the love of men shall wax cold. King George the torturer, the peace prize winning Mr. Obamunist Goodwrench the assassin, etc. have prevented war by enacting war - I knooooow ! WHAT ? ? ? The warmongers should have a giant "L" (for liar) tattooed into the middle of their forehead.
