George Washington Quote

“If men are to be precluded from offering their sentiments on a matter which may involve the most serious and alarming consequences that can invite the consideration of mankind, reason is of no use; the freedom of speech may be taken away, and dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”

We started with a King George who was mad, and we live today with a King George W who may well also be mad... but at least between these two we have seen another George (who would not be king) who saw & spoke truth.

I agree. Reason that cannot be spoken or communicated is useless. Long live free speech and a free press.

And if men were actually informed their sentiments might be a little less bloodthirsty. If they knew the real motivations for war...they might not fight them.

Would that we had leaders like Washington now. Look at the bunch we have in the Congress, and the sorry choice we have in November. The whole bunch couldn't carry George's boots.

Dissent -- the foundation upon which America laid claim to its rights and declared its Freedom.

Ken, Allyn, WA

Political correctness and hate speech laws preclude men from offering their sentiments on matters of great consequence and are therefore unreasonable. Either you agree with some government commission on human rights or you are dragged in front of a tribunal for trial and inevitable punishment. Canada is far down this dark path and America is not far behind.

I think George Washinton was not only a Godly man, he was a lover of freedom. These Czars particularly Mark Lloyd that says my freedom of speech, my right to petition my government, for redress of grievances, my right to stand on any street corner in America to voice my opinion. He tells me that freedom is an exaggeration. Watch this Obamanation.

DH, Mpls, MN

Let us stand for freedom as now it IS being taken from us (& so millions of others all round the world) by this present US government. STAND and not back down; never be ashamed. Our present and past soldiers have fallen for this freedom and we WILL honor them. And we must just care about all men to be toatlly free. -----so YES, great fact/truth by Mr. Washington.
