Henry Morgenthau, Jr. Quote

“We can hardly expect the nation-state to make itself superfluous, at least not overnight. Rather what we must aim for is really nothing more than caretakers of a bankrupt international machine which will have to be transformed slowly into a new one. The transition will not be dramatic, but a gradual one. People will still cling to national symbols.”

Not sure how to rate this sort of quote - it uses good grammar, and makes its point well, but is somewhat sickening in substance. To think, we had people in power that advocated such things!

True Seaborn, Los Alamitos, CA

Underscores how effectively the powerful in this country have kept all discussion of their agenda out of the public square. Makes you wonder if the elite have always been this arrogant.

Just goes to show what the real FDR administration was about. Man, did the Americans get screwed royally by FDR -- the country has never recovered. And Morgenthau is a traitor for handing the Treasury over to the private Federal Reserve. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Anonymous, Reston, VA US

What beautiful insight to a wonderful concept... too bad so many even today are still living in the middle ages and thinking only of their own private "city state" while thumbing their noses at the rest of humanity.

BRIAN D. PICKETT, Tampa, Florida, USA

Oh...what a wonderful one world it would be if Mr. Morgenthau's plan for the future were to come true. Envision a future where the whole world shares. Those of us who are now Americans, Europeans, Australians and other white nations along with the Japanese will be forced to share our land, our wealth, our technology and our food with the rest of the world until we are landless, bankrupt, and starving. The rest of the world will share with us their plagues, their famine, their un-checked population growth, and their mud-huts with us. All this will happen while the "Morgenthaus," Anonymouses (of Reston, Va), and other neo-communists of the world get fat on our "blood". PS. Notice how fredoom hating scum like Anonymous never say who they realy are.

I have only been able to find 5 sites with this quote on the web (besides this site). None of them provides any source data (date, location, event, document, etc.) other than the attribution to Morgenthau. Each is in the category of 'conspiracy theories'. Morgenthau may well have said this. It's not an unheard of sentiment or idea. I am just suspicious when the most comprehensive text I found is from: The John Birch Society - Post Office Box 8040 - Appleton, Wisconsin 54913 - (414) 749-3780 - http://www.etext.org/Politics/Conspiracy/LWB/Global.Tyranny/GLBLTYRN.05

In this case the entire text of the speech ought to be available. Was the world insane at that moment in time? Remember, the world economy was on its knees and WWII was indeed about global domination. Wasn't National Socialism really a bunch of conspiracy theorists who grabbed the reins of power due to dismal economic circumstances? Extremes must always exist and oppose in kind. We must guard the truth to understand.

One thing is to intend, another thing to achieve. Totalitarians have been forming international alliances, and mouthing off about bringing down the American Empire. But most of them don't have the capacity to deal with 100 megatons from the sky. There are mre than 50 U.S. congressional representative registered as members of socialists parties. Many of them are friends of Castro or Chavez or Ortega. Many of them want to take away your guns. Many of them are anti-religionists. Ultimately, there will be war. And they will lose. But who will win? Remember to pray, and remember the hail and fire.

Terry Berg, Occidental, CA

Yeah, prayer has staved off so many catastrophies in the past. You should rely on that. Oh yeah, there's that 'hail and fire' and brimstone and, alternately, 27 virgins if you pray. (What do the women get? - 27 uh, ... 18 year old studs? Nine IS a 'magic' number, after all.) PREACH Brother!

E Archer, NYC

Hey, Brian, lighten up. Your argument loses strength when followed by name-calling. Anon from Reston has been around a while on this list, and although I do not agree with a lot of what he says, I am glad he is here to say it. Insults will not help win support for your position.

Robert, Sarasota

Well said Archer and keep your thoughts coming Reston

The socialist agenda continues to tear down, deindustrialize, and bankrupt a once free people while forming a superfluous cog in an international machine. The liberal side of the equation is committing crimes against humanity by causing man made drought, starving a hungry world. (California and Texas are but 2 examples)

Jack, Brussels (Belgium) - but I'm British !

There is no conspiracy here. Morgenthau was simply talking about the de-nazification of Germany. That put's rather a different spin of things.

J Carlton, Calgary

The problem with socialism and forced taxation to provide for "humanity" is that eventually you run out of everyone else's money. Unless individuals are taught that responsibility for one's own actions and well being are a law of nature, we will continue to see the productive and motivated of the world diminish in numbers. Socialism removes those characteristics. It is easily observed that Obama was for the most part elected by welfare recipients who just want to sit on their asses...great system this "new America".

Waffler, Smith

Is this quote any diffeent from John Lennon's "Imagine" where people live for today. And instead of group thinking (like my nation versus your nation) think as individuals.

J Carlton, Calgary

I don't think Lennon had dictatorship in mind.

I disagree with principle, totally. Like John Lennon, many, many people, I mean, most common people in the world out there follow the emotions of their hearts instead of using their heads to appease the cries of their hearts. There are a few who just turn mean while seeking control, power and money for themselves and taking advantage of those weeping hearts. I like J Carlton's comments: Unless individuals...
