Hubert H. Humphrey Quote

“None of us would trade freedom of expression for the narrowness of the public censor. America is a free market for people who have something to say, and need not fear to say it.”

~ Hubert H. Humphrey

Thank goodness there will always be some people who will always speak their mind.

I believe Mr Humphrey also said the following: "The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously"

Joe, Rochester, MI

The government is censoring the internet. There are some topics which are illegal to put up on websites. Slowly, the government stifles freedom of expression.

In condoning violence in a country that allowed for free expression and non-violent avenues to address grievances, Hubert Humphrey once said, in response to riots that occurred because there was no garbage pick up in their (the rioter's) neighborhood, "If they didn't pick up the garbage in my neighborhood, I'de riot too". It seems that sanitation workers were pelted with rocks and bottles in this neighborhood and until this was rectified, they refused garbage pickup there. What an imbecile!!!

To be a free individual is a misnomer. With the varied climate of existence an individual is free corresponding to the circumstances one challenges in the different dimensional  contexts of the differing confinements. Put simply, it is wrong to say one is free, put correctly, one practices to be free.  Put even more transparent, freedom grows as does knowledge and understanding.
