John F. HylanJohn F. Hylan, (1868-1936), Mayor of New York City (1918-1925), nicknamed "Red Mike"

John F. Hylan Quote

“The real menace of our Republic is the invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy legs over our cities states and nation. At the head is a small group of banking houses generally referred to as 'international bankers.' This little coterie... run our government for their own selfish ends. It operates under cover of a self-created screen...[and] seizes...our executive officers... legislative bodies... schools... courts... newspapers and every agency created for the public protection.”

Invisible my ass!

Craig W. Malik, Staten Island, New York

I drive 80 miles a day on a road named after him (Hylan Blvd.). I now have a new appreciation for this guy.

Don't bury your head in the sand, warren. Hylan is absolutely bang on. It wasn't long after his mayorship that the very same bankers crashed the US economy and brought us the Great Depression which ushered in The Raw Deal that robbed Americans of every gold dollar they owned.

Mike, Norwalk

This seemed to be more accurate with the goose stepping neocons but now that the Obamunist has taken the helm, that giant octopus with its sprawling slimy legs is out in the open more than ever.

Watch now for the deliberate crashing of the economy, preceded by the appropriate dog and pony show of "oh well, we tried". These "bail outs" are going to finish off what's left of the dollar. Get ready...

My guest this Saturday morning (wezs.com/advocates 8:05 eastern) is RedState contributor Francis Cianfrocca: “It was clear that bankruptcy will be the next step for General Motors from the day that President Barack Obama (or his cat’s paw, Steven Rattner, the “car czar”) fired CEO Rick Wagoner.” bnyoung@metrocast.net

Go to freedomtofascism.com and watch the 15 minute trailer from the documentary, "America:Freedom to Fascism" and reflect on and research the info.

Bankruptcy for GM would be for the best. GM could then restructure and get out of those abominable union contracts that are causing them to lose billions. Under these contracts they can sell plenty of cars and still lose money. The "bail out" wasn't to save GM, it was to save the unions. The Dems have been sold out to the unions for years.

Waffler, Smith

The point is clear that there will always be conspiracy nuts in the public arena. This guy said this in 1920 or so and some on this site are still saying it today. Conspiracy theorists are simply guys who do not know what they are talking about. It is like Steve Martin in the movie "The Jerk" when he learned that his name was in the phone book he thought he was somebody. Conspiracy theories are borne out of the fact that one is ignorant of things or facts. Just because you do not know something does not mean that it is a secret. You just are uneducated about that issue, fact or history. I mean really get a life.

Niel Young, Laconia, NH

There has been a conspiracy to change this country from a capitalist/free-to-succed-free-to-fail country for decades. And for those who wanted the change, it is here now in the form of Barack Obama. And for those of us who knew this was THEIR goal we will not accept that. If we are part of a conspiracy to stop THEIR conspiracy - so be it!

J Carlton, Calgary

Thanks Waff, for letting us know what ignorance is...

Waffler, Smith

Being ignorant is no crime Carlton, being stupid and thinking that others who do know something are therefore conspiring is a horse of a different color.

Logan, Memphis, TN

So, "being stupid and thinking that others who do know something are therefore conspiring" is a crime?

Waffler, Smith

Yes Logan it is an intellectual crime. Does the word intellect have any meaning for you. Saying or swallowing when you hear it "the US is a republic not a democracy" is a great example of an intellectual crime.

Tim, Oakland, CA

Waffler is like a shot of fresh air at a flatulence festival..good job cuz.

Chuck, Sunnyvale, CA

Right... and GM, Firestone, Standard Oil, Phillips Petroleum and the like never formed holding companies which bought up street car systems, nor replaced these street car systems with GM buses. It's a myth that they were convicted of conspiring. Employees of Arthur Anderson never conspired to help cook the books so Enron could swindle billions more out of investors. No senator or member of Congress has ever received a bribe in exchange for a vote on legislation that would be financially beneficial to the briber. Merely pointing out that there is something rotten in Denmark does not make one a nut case. Not having ALL of the facts, nor even misinterpreting some of them does not negate there is something rotten. Ignoring that there is something rotten... well that is stupid. Hey, the doctor says my foot has gangrene, but I think he is a conspiracy theorist nut job. So, I'm just going to ignore what he says.

Anonymous, Fairmont

It appears that even our presidents where conspiracy nuts....according to some of you idiots! LOL Wake Up I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world -- no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men." Woodrow Wilson

J Carlton, Calgary

Here's an interesting video that's historically accurate and shows us that the quote is bang on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD1G7f4bE0w ...and freeman above makes a good suggestion...see Freedom to Fascism. End the Fed, Restore the Republic.

Excellent quote. If ignorance was a crime, Waffler would be doing 20 to life.

I'd be interested in reading Mr. Hylan's proposal(s) to FIX it !
( Or any others: a nice 10 or a dozen "idea points" would suffice.)

Ronw13, Yachats Or

Many good comments :) Let the monster be seen, usually comes before an all out assault on persons as property. A swing set on every lawn to start. then, an Oath again, to protect and uphold our Constitution and our Declaration of Peace and War. Now more than ever before, at home.

John F. Hylan, former Mayor of New York City, explained (22 March 1922 in Chicago):
“The real menace of our Republic is the invisible government, which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy legs over our cities, states and nation . . . The little coterie of powerful international bankers virtually run the United States government for their own selfish purposes. They practically control both parties . . . [and] control the majority of the newspapers and magazines in this country. They use the columns of these papers to club into submission or drive out of office public officials who refuse to do the bidding of the powerful corrupt cliques which compose the invisible government. It operates under cover of a self-created screen [and] seizes our executive officers, legislative bodies, schools, courts, newspapers and every agency created for the public protection.”
