Lyndon B. Johnson Quote

“You do not examine legislation in the light of the benefits it will convey if properly administered, but in the light of the wrongs it would do and the harm it would cause if improperly administered.”

Hence the reason that the Patriot Act and all such Acts should be done away -- the scale of perceived benefits to liberties destroyed is not equal... Then again, no benefit, regardless of how "secure" or "protected" it supposedly makes me, is ever is worth my liberty or freedom of choice. I rate 5 stars for content, though it's ironic considering the source.

LOL - irony follows expectation - no expectation, no irony.

Kyle, Helena, MT

Ironic indeed... coming from the guy who gave us the Great Society.

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." (Benjamin Franklin) is but one example of the quote.

Joe, Rochester, MI

The Patriot Act is a perfect example. Unconstitutional no-knock warrants are what happens with improper administration.

Great advice -- wish LBJ had taken it.

MK, Houston

Goodness...great advise....who said LBJ wasn't a good politician...he could say the right things, sound believable, and have an excuse for not doing them. People loved him so much that they literally came ouf of the grave to vote for him in Duvall County, TX (ie for those who are too young to remember, many voters were later found to have been deceased for quite some time.)

Bob, Eugene, OR

What a good little socialist he was!

Mike, Norwalk

After reading it again, I would change my rating to a thumbs down. All the statements here are accurate if the de jure U.S.A. was based on legal positivism (IT WAS/IS NOT ! ! ! ) At natural / Constitutional law, only the natural law can be described (legislated) without regard to benefit or denigration - thus - freedom, liberty, inalienable rights and prosperity all reign supreme..

It just goes to show a bad little socialist can have wise counsel. MK, Houston, Some might call it creative accounting.

Read a "Texan Looks at Lyndon" and you will see a great politician and major crook in action. It's out of print but most likely available on Amazon.

Right Jim k. If this is his quote. Then he certainly didn't practice what he preached.
