Robert A. Heinlein Quote

“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”

J Carlton, Calgary

That's just beautiful.

Mike, Norwalk

I am free and live as a sovereign except for the inability to own property. I act because I am. Those rules set forth by the current fascist theocracy that are contrary to the pre-14th Constitution, the laws of nature and of nature's God, and rights endowed by man's Creator are for slave patrons; I need not break them as they do not apply to me. I alone am morally responsible for everything I do ! ! !

Agree J Carlton, he speaks of the pure essence of freedom of spirit, but I have discovered words fail to describe its beauty and majesty with the real justice it deserves. Abolutely glorious and even that sells it short.

Ben Gunn, Nomanisan Island

I am only as free as the freedom I do not take from others.

Waffler, Smith

Nice and uplifting poetry but BS in reality. The gentleman is free to obey or to go to jail. And that is a legitimate choice as the civil rights movement proved. Civil disobedience can change things. I think Ben Gunn is on to something with his comment. On the job once I sided with an outside client against my employer and all of my bosses and management at the risk of major retribution. I was correct and morally responsible in my action and the result turned out perfectly well. It usually pays to do the right thing even against the odds. PS: "If you know the right."

Love it because its absolutly true.

M. Brown, Florida

Corrie ten Boom, "felt free", in a concentration camp. Her sister said before dying, ""There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still." So are we free? Yes!

Judith, Corrales

Idealistic. Right isn't might, unfortunately. Yet, if one can hold steady to your ideals when standing alone in a field of idiots and innocents, one is free. It takes an independent resolute person to find comfort in that ideal. Waffler was apparently successful in winning over authority and felt justified in the effort.. Perhaps management didn't have much to lose and let him have that one. When your whole being is at stake and you are up against ruthless foe, better to make sure what the risks are and that you can live with them. Dying is easy, as it is soon over, not to diminish M. Brown's quote.

E Archer, NYC

It's a declaration, not poetry. It is the stand of a freeman, who must always decide for himself what he is for and against.

J. B. Wulff, Bristol

Is this the scientology dude? It's still a great quote. A keystone piece of living is to accept responsibility for your choices and the outcomes. Too many people never learn this and we all pay the price of their ignorance.

Eric, Atlanta

The great man speaks from the grave. We miss you Bob.

Ms. Christian, Wethersfield

Totally reminds me of myself in my younger years! Rebel against the law of authority,in which I still can not stand as an adult. Accept what's right and wrong now...

jim k, austin tx

"Never Underestimate the Power of Human Stupidity." Robert Heinlein. Nearly all religions prove this.

Ron w13, Or

The legacy of freedom and the stance thereof. The word is used once in a KJB. Freeman. I Corin 7:22. But in conjunction with the Doctrines of Liberty. Financial liberty. Inability to own property, Separating the natural agent from their life source, keeping all as slaves. Denying inheritance, lest tribute is paid !
Liberty denied, stolen away.
