Roger Quarles Mills Quote

“Prohibition was introduced as a fraud; it has been nursed as a fraud. It is wrapped in the livery of Heaven, but it comes to serve the devil. It comes to regulate by law our appetites and our daily lives. It comes to tear down liberty and build up fanaticism, hypocrisy, and intolerance. It comes to confiscate by legislative decree the property of many of our fellow citizens. It comes to send spies, detectives, and informers into our homes; to have us arrested and carried before courts and condemned to fines and imprisonments. It comes to dissipate the sunlight of happiness, peace, and prosperity in which we are now living and to fill our land with alienations, estrangements, and bitterness. It comes to bring us evil - only evil - and that continually. Let us rise in our might as one and overwhelm it with such indignation that we shall never hear of it again as long as grass grows and water runs.”

~ Roger Quarles Mills

from an 1887 speech by Roger Q. Mills of Texas. It was quoted more than once during the December, 1914 debate in Congress

You can say that again Mike! :-)

Marijuana prohibition has its roots in racism and is sustained in order to punish and confiscate. And Mike is right, Obamacare is not the "law of the land" it is a commumist edict handed down by a petty tyrant who despises "the law of the land".

J nailed it.

Aunt Jane, welcome ;-) I like it, YES ! Carlton, I've spoken to many in the legalized medical marijuana industry (doctors, college researchers, attorneys, and those in the business thereof). They all claim prohibition is by big business (alcohol, pharmaceutical and otherwise competing products) and a bought and paid for government mis-infomation puppet brigade. I ask, what or where is the legal nexus for individuals united in a body politic to regulate by law our appetites and our daily lives ? There is no such lawful nexus ! Because I have never used marijuana or, someone else claims a moral imperative to mandate their perception of reality on others does that authorize the tearing down of liberty and a building up of fanaticism, hypocrisy, and intolerance ? The answer is NO !

Right on! Mike, the pharmaceutical industry does not want ANY natural substances to replace their monopoly on 'drugs' -- and not just marijuana but thousands of plants that have been used as medicine for eons. And the police state and its myriad of agencies does not want 'legalization' of marijuana (or any medicines that the common man can prepare himself) because it will put thousands of 'law enforcement' personnel and prison guards out of work. Also, without the 'War on Drugs' asset forfeiture and seizure laws would be non-existent -- you cannot seize the house of a murderer but you can for finding a pot seed on one's property. Prohibition is a license for the state to STEAL without due process, to treat all as guilty until proven innocent, allow us to be stopped and frisked at any time -- no probable cause is ever required now. And finally the drug cartels and the various corrupt military agencies around the world make BILLIONS from the 'illegal' drug trade. Legalization would end the funding of black markets around the world. Economic collapse preceded the repeal of alcohol prohibition in order to raise tax revenues -- the same will happen with marijuana and soon. Blame it ALL on the folks in Washington DC who keep this racket going. The rest of the world is little by little ending drug prohibition in their countries because they can't afford a police state and the accompanying government corruption.

The 'War on Drugs' was never given a constitutional amendment, but is the unlawful stepchild of Prohibition.
