Form a political point of view it would appear that this quote could be used to do away with all drug enforcemnet. Eliminate pharmacist and controls on medications altogether. I don't think that would be a good idea. We all know that folks need protection. Should it go as far as the weed, I dunno.

Problems with consciousness are not due to a marijuana deficiency.

Pharmaceutical companies are now doing their own testing...which is basically "rubber stamped" by the FDA. Who's protecting us from those guys? The Government? Yeah, right! Personally I don't trust any drugs any more..not the store kind and certainly not the street kind...none!

Sweet. ;-) When alcohol prohibition ended with the repeal of the 18th Amendment, the 'bureau' was on the verge of being shut down -- so another 'drug' was demonized. Marihuana (the name the Mexicans used -- it was known as cannabis and hemp in America and was one of the largest crops the country ever produced) was said to make 'negroes' and Mexicans have sex with white women -- that was the main case. The medical community did not support the claims at the time, but the bill was passed before Congressmen realized they just made some of the state crops illegal. Hearst and Dupont cornered the market for the timber and nylon industries. Once again, the People were duped by the rich and powerful. Indeed the Declaration of Independence is written on hemp paper (hemp makes the best paper in the world) and GW Bush was saved by his parachute made of hemp. Canvas was indeed made from 'cannabis' (where it got its name). Give it a rest you prohibitionists -- if the government can make a plant illegal, it can decide what you may grow, eat, produce, etc. and that is a great injustice in the end. It won't be long that vitamins and other natural substances will be declared illegal and drugs like Ridalin will be required for all of us. As far as consiouness goes, the government doesn't want anyone asking too many questions that challenge the status quo. Go ahead kill yourself with pharmaceuticals -- I'll take a plant any day.

Jim I won't argue with your point. But why or why are laws regulating drugs on the books? Must be a reason. Don't blame the problems on the cops who are doing what we as society through our laws ask them to do. Change the law and quit fighting the cops.

warren, if hemp can't get you high, why is it illegal? Once again my point is that the 'drug laws' are political in nature and has nothing to do with protecting the health and safety of Americans. The US imports millions of tons of hemp from China -- but refuses hemp from Canada because Canada broke ranks with the US and legalized hemp farming while the federal government has refused to allow hemp to be grown in the US any more because of the drug laws. It's all a bunch of hooey -- making drugs illegal has in fact made our cities and suburbs MORE dangerous as well as corrupting our police and justice system. There is not enough space here in this blog to document the entire story of drug prohibition in America and the political ties that protected corporate monopolies' profits. But keep your head in the sand, and stay out of the line of fire -- it's the neo-American way.

Waffler, in the year 1900 anyone could go to the pharmacy and get whatever they wanted. Times were peaceful and folks faced their own consequences of their choices. Quit saying someone must protect us from ourselves.

I think those who are in denial and cannot accept the facts that for thousands of years people have had a natural desire to seek altered states of consciousness, and just because some laws were passed into existence by and for Lawyers to make a living off of, is a huge problem and such laws only those benefit those who created the laws in the first place and for a huge profit too.

The biggest benefactors in all of the drug wars ultimately is the large international central banks, and the biggest ones are the Federal Reserve Bank and The Bank of England, this is because the drug cartels need the banksters to launder their "dirty money" to hide it from the taxing authorities who want a piece of the action just like the Cops and Courts do. There is a strong link between the banksters and the drug cartels and no one, not even the Federal Reserve can deny that it's true.
