Democracy is when 51% gets to be lord and master of 49%: fifty-one kings for forty-nine peasants. You would be better off in a monarchy where you only have one king to please.

The problem is that Congress does not care what it is authorized to do by the Constitution. They are an oligarchy, not representatives of the people, and they will do as they please and twist the meaning of the Constitution to justify their actions to an ignorant public.

I certainly wouldn't want to bet my life that any jury today would give a single thought to whether the law itself is just or not. As products of today's government education system, being molded into compliant drones, they can only be expected to do as they're told and convict.

The law can be a shield or a weapon. It can be used as a shield by both the innocent and the guilty. Likewise, it can be used as a weapon against the innocent and guilty. Lawyers are simply the hired mercenaries.

At least with a tax cut they're buying my vote with my own money, and they're not buying someone else's vote with my money. And, yes, we're all "on the take" as the saying goes. Also, how is it that people trust the government to be more charitable than they trust themselves? If you want to give more of your income to the poor, feel free. If you get to keep more of your income, you have more to give.

For liberals it's easy to be "charitable" and assuage their guilt with someone else's money. Liberals always take the "easy" way out. They run when they should stand. They whine and complain when they should work, and they always find a way to blame someone else for their personal failures and consequences of their foolish choices.

This is a good description of the ideal government. Unfortunately, men make up the government.

What everyone forgets is that each of us thinks we're the poor, or at least the middle class, when government knows that we're all the evil rich.

Helorat, unless you repeal the ability to tax income by constitutional amendment it is too easy to bring back by statute. I'm afraid it is like a zombie that will not die. And Reston, in case you hadn't noticed, we a in a booming economy with unemployment numbers lower and personal income higher than any time in the Klinton administration.

The point of government is not to put money in your wallet or to leave it there. The point is to take it so politicians can buy Reston's, Dick's, and Jack's votes.

Who are the most affected by inheritance taxes? Small businesses like farms, grocers, hardware stores, etc., that are worth a few million dollars in capital assets and very little cash. So what happens when a death occurs? Widows and orphans have to sell the family farm to pay the tax. Is this fair? It is to wingstitch and Anonymous, heartless liberals that they are. If you are a liberal at any age, you have neither a heart or a brain.

Good observation, Mike. You are only allowed to act as a moral being when you do your acts voluntarily. Charity at the point of government's gun is not charity at all, and government has robbed you of the opportunity to do a moral act by freely giving.

Buying votes is not a legitimate reason to tax, yet that is what a significant portion of government revenue is used to do through quaint descriptions like "earmarks" and "social investments". I would give this quote 10 stars if they were available.

I doubt that I'll ever be given the opportunity to live on my income. However, I'm sure that someone else is (living on my income, that is).

I suppose this is why the IRS calls the income tax a "voluntary tax". The IRS certainly wouldn't want to be immoral or oppressive.

Our Constitution doesn't seem to be in actual operation anymore, and we still have death and taxes. I guess Ben was right.
