Mencken quote Fear and tragedy sells newspapers. 4 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/15/13 re: Harry Browne quote The old saw, "Let's not make a federal case out of it", was a joke when someone had a minor problem or was caught doing something wrong. Nowadays, every local "problem" becomes a federal problem requiring the govrnment to solve it. Can't afford those birth control items, don't worry, Obama to the rescue. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/15/13 re: Dr. Michael Crichton quote True, and the editorial page is usually full of liberal propaganda. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/14/13 re: Sir Walter Scott quote Yes, deception works havoc but it works pretty well for the politicians in Washington. We keep reelecting the likes of Pelosi, Reid, and Obama. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/14/13 re: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. quote This is a great quote. Just because something is legal doesn't make it right. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/14/13 re: Mark Twain quote According to Reid, Pelosi, Obama, and the rest of the usual suspects, the debt crisis that we have was the fault of everyone but them. A great book on Lincoln is "Lincoln Uber Alles," meaning Lincoln over all. The so-called Great Emancipator" only freed the slaves in the states wanting to seceed. If you lived up North and happened to side with the South, you were headed to a long stretch in prison, thanks to Lincoln's martial law edicts. Licoln was a big government tyrant. 2 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/10/13 re: Abraham Lincoln quote E archer, to answer your question, Yes, Waffler is nuts. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/10/13 re: Harriet Beecher Stowe quote Sometimes true, but it didn't stop Obama Care. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/10/13 re: William McGowan quote More emotional, this should appeal to liberals as they are much more emotional than analytical. The last election, for example. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/4/13 re: Edmund Burke quote These gun control facists come to mind when I read this quote. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/4/13 re: Alexis de Tocqueville quote Great quote and the last line pretty well sums it up. And once again J Carlton got it right. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/3/13 re: Jean-Francois Revel quote Right on J Carlton. The mindless slogan "Hope and Change" also comes to mind. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/3/13 re: Friedrich Nietzsche quote The first two lines of this quote pretty well sum up socialism. You could also say that liberalism is the identical twin of socialism. 5 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/3/13 re: Thucydides quote L Hanson, listen carefully as I shall try to make this so plain that even you will understand. Murders and robbery rates are much higher in states and cities with strict gun laws. The opposite is true where folks are allowed to carry guns.I don't know much about Canada but this is abundently clear here in the USA. 2 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/2/13 re: John Quincy Adams quote David, Hollywood, true and funny. E Archer, I agree with your comment. Sailorswind, interesting comment. I'm alwaya curious when someone wants to "turn to the Bible". Which part?? Maybe the part where "God" ordered the Israelites to kill everyone in a village including women and children. Maybe the part where you should have your children stoned if they disobey. Or perhaps the part where God got ticked off at the world He made and drowned everyone in a flood including innocent children, all except one family. Which part should we turn to?
