A great book on Jefferson is "The Essence Of Jefferson", by Martin Larson. It mostly consists of Jeffersons letters and opinions on many subjects, including religion. He said that he didn't trouble anyone with his religion and didn't expect others to bother him with theirs. He had no use whatsoever for the doctrine of the Trinity so loved by the fundamentalists of today. I'm sure that the hell fire Bible thumpers of the day thought he was an Atheist just as they said the same of Thomas Paine. 3 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 11/1/11 re: Samuel Adams quote I'm with J and Cal on this one. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 11/1/11 re: Ronald Reagan quote This sounds exactly like something Reagan would say and it is so true. Rent the movie, 1974. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/26/11 re: Joel Barlow quote I believe it was Oliver Cromwell who said, "Put your trust in God but keep your powder dry." Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/26/11 re: Doug Bandow quote Criminals will always have guns in spite of the strictist gun control laws. 4 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/26/11 re: Cesare Beccaria quote Robert, Sarasota, are you joking ? Criminals carry guns because we do, that's either insane or terribly naive. Criminals carry guns because the need them to rob people, commit murders etc. Citizens need them to protect their lives and property from criminals. All the gun control laws in the world will not stop criminals from obtaining guns. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/20/11 re: Sol Bloom quote Wonderful quote. Is there any doubt in anyones mind that that the fine folk in Washington ignore and despise the Constitution. It's simply a bump in the road to their socialist agenda. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/19/11 re: Vance Packard quote England is a great example, they have thousands of cameras almost everywhere. and they are circling the drain now. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/19/11 re: Frank Chodorov quote J Carlton, you are correct. If the Obama gang has their way, China will be a freer country than the U.S. One advantage that China has is this, no EPA to put up with. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/17/11 re: Johannes von Muller quote This quote may have lost something in the translation. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/17/11 re: Calvin Coolidge quote The fine folks who are now running (ruining?) the country believe that your money is theirs and they will allow you to keep some of it at their discretion. Naturally, you will be expected to pay " your fair share" whatever that term is supposed to mean. Nancy, Ralph, Maxine, and the rest will be happy to explain. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/14/11 re: Thomas Carlyle quote Great quote. I suspect that there may even be a few honest people in the U.S. House and Senate, and if they all met at once for coffee at Starbucks, it wouldn't be over crowded. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/14/11 re: Yiddish Proverb quote It's impossible to get even a half truth out of that gang hanging around the Oval Office. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/14/11 re: Thomas Paine quote I'm with Mike on this and I love Thomas Paine. His book,"The Age Of Reason" is well worth reading. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/13/11 re: Patrick Henry quote As to having no "manners and principles", I refer you to the left wing scum and no-nothings currently roaming our streets. Half of these "occupiers" are left wingers who want to turn this country into a socialist nation and the other half are nit-wit fellow travelers who like to march around carrying stupid signs so they can feel significant. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/13/11 re: Aristotle quote Excellent quote. It tells you a lot about the trouble this country is in when we expect politicians to lie. What's worse, we continue to re-elect them. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 10/12/11 re: Vittorio de Sica quote Daniel, surely you aren't trying to bolster your argument my saying that labor unions have "signed on". They use thugs and goons to bolster their positions. I won't comment further as it is silly arguing with a nit. It's like trying to teach a pig to whistle, it's impossible and annoys the pig.
