You are ready for the second crash of the double dip, aren't you Waffler?

Anonymous

Absolutely! I'm guilty of that train of thought! Not any more!

Now you guys ignore the quote and go to labeling yourselves and naming all those other labels, in effect condemning or more like promoting a group (Tea Party'ers) rather than their teachings or what they say. It is interesting that when politicians retire and sit around they can agree on a lot of things, once they drop their labels.

Jefferson is a hypocritical idiot. We are lucky the level-headed Adams and Washington were around at the time Jefferson was making his rounds.

I couldn't agree more. Guns have one use!

It's self evident... in other words be curious even about things you are not interested in.

I don't get what you all see wrong with Davids argument. He was demonstrating that belief in a supreme being of some sort does not constitute ignorance or denial of information. He already demonstrated that the flat earth idea is a fallacy citing three different cultures that embrace three different faiths. I suspect that you who are resorting merely to ad-hominem are pre-programmed to have a negative response to anyone or anything that entertains the idea of a supreme being or higher unobserved power. That is where his anti-christ statement came from. You demonstrated that this quote applies to people beyond the realms of religion. Eratosthenes of Alexandria (circa 276 to 194 or 192 B.C.) calcuated the circumference of the earth "within 50 miles of the present estimate." [Encyclopedia Brittanica]

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." - Truth! Found on Page 51 of the Jefferson cyclopedia. Note: The entire quote reads: "No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms [within his own lands]." PROPOSED Virginia CONSTITUTION. FORD ED., ii, 27. I think I WANT to trust Americans to recognize propaganda etc., but, sadly, I don't trust them to do so. Especially listening to the discourse of late. Most people on either side (or no side) of the political spectrum do not seem to have much ability for - or interest in- critical thinking. Even so, in a supposedly free society, I'd absolutely support this stance by the ALA. I think a lot of conservative and so called libertarian rhetoric, for example, is flawed, sometimes stupid, and in some cases overtly dangerous. Still, I'd absolutely defend your right to teach this crap to your children (on your own time, at home, or in private school...) to check out books from the library on these topics/supporting these views I see as flawed and dangerous (and libraries ARE funded by my tax dollars...) It's not up to me to decide what you can and should read, or vice versa.

Interesting. I'm not a big Nietzsche lover, but if we assume that this is good advice from him, we'd be talking about the USA, for sure, as we have more people in prison, both by numbers and by "per capita" than ANY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. Hmmmm....

Considering the words of President Garfield above. NOTHING should be more important to ponder than the many means used by our absolute masters to control the volume of their imaginary money. Taxes are as imaginary as our money, they are illusions that help regulate our use of the money that Keynes called "worthless." For more ways to regulate, see: www.morpix/biz/x4

It's a good quote. However it's wise to bear in mind that Rand was reacting to the policies and atrocities of Stalinist Russia, and not creating a blanket prescription for all time. Also for the fundamentalist Christians who have picked up Rand's philosophy as though it's a good explanation for their political beliefs and activities; Rand was very much pro-abortion rights. Personally I see eye to eye with Rand on that... but the right wing in America, in large part, do not. I know that doesn't have anything to do with that particular quote, necessarily... just sayin'

I think Puritanism is alive and well- in the USA---in full witch hunt mode (with any respect due...) in the form of the Southern Baptist Convention and other groups. Read "American Theocracy" by Kevin Phillips...

this quote is inaccurate. The quote reads "Any one may so arrange his affairs that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which will best pay the Treasury; there is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes." BUT the case DOES NOT INCLUDE the following quote: "Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands."

Well tell your far right friends and the Republican party that is in the hands of the money crowd and the greed crowd that is so much interested in protecting money form law suits by the great unwashed to get on board. Tort reform is a means of further enslaving the masses to the big corporations.
