By plutonium yes, and the quest for oil through warfare's implementation.

One of those quotes hard to rate since a high rating would seem to equate with agreeing with it and a low-the reverse. Well, knowing one's enemy is important so I think it is important to bring such blatant barbarianism to light.

Too Orwellian to even comment on.

Not exactly accurate, although it would be nice if it were. Firstly, deep wisdom is hard to come by and cleverness has supplanted it in our consumer driven culture. Secondly, usurped power seems more than able to hold its own against the sway of public opinion-and we don't need to look far to see a gross example of that.

Sometimes successful, but there are too mnay narcissistic people about that if you treat them honorably they will continue to take advantage of any self serving opportunity that kindness affords them. I have known and loved this quote, thought of it as an ideal, but still encounter idiots on a regular basis, despite my treatment of them.

Having just visited Ireland, this strikes me as not only a well said hoped for truism, but one that is very Irish.

Any kind of responsible and intelligent dissent that helps to make people aware of the dangers of the status quo is important. But what I like about the quote is the phrase, "hunches the world along." I admire the use of a word/phrase that no one has ever articulated in the same way-at least I have never heard this before.

As stupid as some of the things Bush says.

Not so well expressed, but this could be an interesting tangient to pursue-the model of nature in comparison and contrast to the social organization of society.

Being a revolutionary is an ideological position.

I am continually chagrined by those who say they are so depressed or angry about world affairs-currently the cause of our govt.-that they have stopped reading or paying any attention to the news. That is the part that is depressing.

Just a wild guess, but I would suspect if "go out".

I agree that censorship is inconsistent with the character of a free society as a whole, but when the freedoms of our supposely free societies have been so contorted there are subtle, and not so subtle forms of censorship, that not recognized or labeled as such have considerable sway over people's abilitiy to unearth the truth.

Film and the internet have replaced the pamphlet in the modern era.

Interestnig to point out, "Congress shall make no law", not that "a free nation can in no way allow or tolerate"..Not that I feel any better.

These three quotes brought a great sadness over me. I think of how this fundamental RIGHT and elemental freedom has been so maligned by both the distortion of valid debate into an attack on patrioticism, and the contortions of political rhetoric in which one can hardly decipher anyone's real opinion--in both cases to serve the narrow self interest of people obsessed in maintaining their hold on power. It's pretty depressing.

There is something with the human psyche that gravitates to the negative. Consider anything critical anyone has ever said to you as compared to praise, from childhood on--we remember the slgihts forever, the compliments fade.

From another independent thinker and doer... “Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It’s all about paying attention. Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. Stay eager.” Susan Sontag

A romantic statement that sounds lofty except for the fact that such a tenement exists because the forces of society, inequality, oppression and poor governance have already intruded thereon. The King may not be seated in the parlour but he is there in spirit.

What a revelatory exhortation of what we assume to be liberty to be its exact opposite. Awesome!

Easier said then done--if we all had such true moral conviction we would not pay our income tax that supports this insufferable adminsitration's war.

The power of MLK's appraoch to civil rights was the perfect method at an advantageous historical moment. Many forces were at work that made his contribution the pivotal device to shift power and public sentiment in the direction of justice for the oppressed black population in America at that time. Coupled with the musical revolution, the high profile of Malcolm X and the moral rectitude of the Islamic Brotherhood, Thurgood Marshall, Jack and Bobby Kennedy, the Summer of Love and the Rainbow Coalition, and then above all the strength of people willing to go to the streets for their cause and convictions, the non-violent steadiness of Martin Luther King had the most fertile ground that could have existed for the successful outcome of his approach to social action.
