It is not an accurate quotation and is a paraphrase of two actual quotes, which are referenced there. Cheers. 1 Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 7/11/17 re: The Declaration of Arbroath 1320 quote Thanks, Kate, the change has been made. Cheers! Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 7/7/17 re: Richard Henry Lee quote hh 4 Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 7/5/17 re: Thomas Jefferson quote Thanks, Terence. This quotation is excerpted from one of Jefferson's drafts of the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson wrote 'inalienable' in all of his hand-written drafts; however, in Adams 'rough draft' it was 'unalienable.' Adams was on the committee which supervised the printing of the text ordered by Congress, and it may have been at his suggestion that the change was made. The quote as inscribed on the Jefferson Memorial in the nation’s capital also says 'inalienable' but does not include 'inherent and inalienable' as was in this draft. 'Inalienable' is most correct with Latin roots, unalienable combines English and Latin. While unalienable was in popular use in the 18th century, today, inalienable is the more commonly used form with the same meaning. Truman quote Don, we have also been unable to find the source of this quote. We have tagged it 'Attributed' as it is popularly attributed to Truman. 2 Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 7/26/16 re: Adolf Hitler quote Thank you, Steve. The quote is popularly attributed to Hitler, but most likely a paraphrase. Since Hitler spoke German, searching for the source of this quote would require the actual German. The quote is found in A. E. Samaan's 'From a Race of Masters to a Master Race.' We have put that quote here and tagged the source of this quote accordingly. Thanks again! 5 Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 7/20/16 re: Adolf Hitler quote Thanks to those who 'do' think and have pointed out the lack of source of this quote. We're going to tag it as 'questionable' with a source that is 'attributed' until we can find a source. Cheers. Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 7/13/16 re: Sir Roger L'Estrange quote Thanks, Cal. Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 3/17/16 re: George Washington quote The quote is marked as a 'False George Washington quote'. The actual quote is from the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796 which was written during Washington's presidency, but John Adams signed it. It is inaccurately attributed to Washington himself. Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 1/19/16 re: James Madison quote Thanks, James. The quote has been marked as False. The source of the quote appears to be from Jeffrey Snyder in an essay 'A Nation of Cowards,' (Fall 1993)We have added the Snyder quote here:http://quotes.liberty-tree.ca/quote_blog/Jeffrey.Snyder.Quote.6BF8 Reply Editor, Liberty Quotes 12/29/15 re: Daniel Webster quote The source has been updated -- thank you, anonymous, cocord and John, People's Republic of Illinois. However, in light of recent attempts by Hillary Clinton to take down embarrassing videos of/about her, it may not be entirely out of the question that Bill Clinton's remarks may have been cleaned up by MTV.
