What a pile of crap this is! All it takes is ANY kind of government to limit your liberty? REALLY bad government -- no liberty! And of course, the law is made by lawyers...('nuff said)

OK! So what is the toll? Does everyone pay? Pay equally?

Good question -- answered in about half the states by Initiative & Referendum. Otherwise ..."comes the revolution!" ...always an option which legislators don't think about. Until it's too late.

And yet, the lawyers become a power in themselves. They become a community of ruling elite, placing themselves above the common man. (Chat with one, suggest that it's possible, perhaps even desirable, for people to take the law into their own hands -- and see what he says & does. --for you will have spoken the unthinkable...for him.)

Spooner is obviously an anarchist -- anti-Govt.-- with no real altrnative to propose. I went to the spooner website & mucked around in economic gibberish for a while -- stuck in the 19th century --probably relevant then but unaware of the now obvious effects of technology which make "small business" as viable as "big business." Spooner certainly has the right to criticize, but if he can't come up with anything better than Social Anarchy, his bleating is just so much Gorilla Dust.

Brooks Hays was a dupe of the one-world-order nuts. He was betraying the "states rights" democrats who made up the bulk of the southern congressmen. Ultimately, after 7 terms, he was defeated. The idea that we should surrender our rights to a government which then calls them "privileges" is bad enuf in the US. How could anyone think that bigger is better?

Jefferson, long my idol, had a perfect idea of what government should be. Before he died, tho, the Feds were starting to take control. "We know what's best for you!" is their motto, because they think we don't have enuf sense to govern ourselves. Maybe -- someday -- we'll decide to take it back, but maybe not -- it's just sooooo easy to let Uncle Sugar do it.

Well, devilish part of the system that "we" have devised is that the majority "thinks" that it is in control. Actually, the majority is the mass which has been fooled by the real ruling elite. The minority perceives this duplicity, and seeks to break the grip of the elite. To no avail, of course.

This was written as a reaction to Lincoln's extraordinary actions to circumvent certain provisions of the constitution "temporarily" and of course, justified by the war which threatened the reality of the union itself. Lincoln, I'm sure, felt that any extreme activity was justified to ensure that the union endured. NOW, we realize that he set a precedent which has been followed by presidents ever since, in every sort of "emergency." Either the constitution works "equally in war and peace" or not. If not, then it's left open for all sorts of tinkering and bypassing. Which is what we have now.

Couple this undeniable fact with a lack of moral sense (i.e. conscience) on the part of the rulers, and you have the exact situation which we have in Belize, and perhaps in the US. (?) Belize: just another Banana Republic.

Well, he gets a little extreme at the end, there, doesn't he? But, at least, we should fire govt. employees for "public stupidity." And maybe a week in the stocks would be good too. ...never mind all the other quotes you're sending out; this one says it all.

Frugal Government -- what an oxymoron that is!! When was the last time the govt said "we can't afford it!"? So is the previous commenter commenting on TJ or his statement? _ad homenem_ it looks like. My God, don't we wish we had somebody like TJ around today???

Written in 1925, ol' G.K. was "spot on" wasn't he. That's why I like living in Belize -- close to the source of my food, without many of the invisibly-produced comforts which enslave modern man.
