True, the point isn't to compare the Nazis and the US. It is about realizing how people are manipulated by their fear and sense of nationalism into supporting horrible atrocities. There could be no better example than the lies that sold the Iraq war. And using the boogy-man of communism sold us the atrocity of Vietnam. And of course the list goes on. Goering should have added that you need to keep people ignorant of the horror that this kind of manipulation has brought societies in the past.
