Truman quote Amen Harry. Hitler had an efficient government as does Fidel Castro. Thank goodness we don't have one. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/20/14 re: Czech Proverb quote Anonymous, no one said that this is "Liberty" , it's a Czech proverb. I believe it suggests that when the big thieves get caught, they always look for someone lower on the food chain to blame. When the IRS scandal broke, the folks in D.C. blamed some underlings in Cincinnati. They just didn't know anything about it at headquarters. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/16/14 re: Thomas Paine quote One of the greatest founding fathers. I agree with Paine on this. Every church or religion was founded by humans and everyone is suspect. If you are convinced of the crazy notion that a talking snake convinced a woman to eat some fruit, try believing the morman religion, it's even nuttier. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/16/14 re: Thomas Jefferson quote Jefferson was a Deist. He thought the idea of a virgin birth and the Trinity were bad theology. We are never quite sure exactly sure what Jesus actually said due to scribes mistakes in copying the Bible. Read "Misquoting Jesus" by Bart Ehrman, and you can check it out on YouTube. Faith is pretending to know something that you know nothing about. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/14/14 re: Noah Webster quote The moral precepts of the old Testament leave a lot to be desired and if you followed them you'd end up in jail, and rightfully so. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/13/14 re: Jerome H. Skolnick quote No one has the power to define morality but some folks think they do. We wouldn't have horrors such as the War on Drugs unless we have leftover vestiges of morality from the witch burning days. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/13/14 re: H. L. Mencken quote H.L. is one of my favorites and he hits the nail on the head. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/13/14 re: Garrison Keillor quote Anonymous, look around. Harry , Nancy, Barack, and the gang haven't switched parties unless I missed it. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/9/14 re: Robert Bork quote To understand the mess we are in, just remember that about 90% of the folks in congress are lawyers. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/9/14 re: Pearl S. Buck quote Ask anyone who spent time in one of Fidel Castro's prisons. 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/8/14 re: Eric Idle quote Mark Twain and Mencken were great at satire. 3 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/7/14 re: H. L. Mencken quote Mencken is exactly right, as he usually is. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/6/14 re: Thomas Holcroft quote Mike, nevertheless, my GPS generally tells me which way to turn at an intersection. As to praying for the sick, I figure that someone may be healed regardless of prayer. Praying that someone will get well, and they do, is anecdotal evidence and doesn't prove cause and effect. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/6/14 re: Bertrand Russell quote Nice comment, cal. 2 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/6/14 re: Thomas Holcroft quote I was raised in a Bible church and we weren't given to thinking, only believing. Thinking could lead to doubting and doubting was a sin. Hey, we had enough sins and didn't want to add doubting to the list. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/1/14 re: The Mahabharata quote Bob, Eugene Oregon, you said it well. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 1/1/14 re: Plato quote Gary Bell, what the hell are you talking about. And Debbie, the air must be thin on Pilot Mt. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 12/31/13 re: Charles Alan Murray quote Anonymous and Reston are nuts but Josiah's comment is a little peculiar. I haven't seen too many people who were happy in jail. Maybe a few who" have found Jesus" but they all seem happy to leave Jesus in and get themselves out of prison. And what on earth is " limited government with a Biblical basis". Certainly not the Old Testament basis. I suspect that limited government is paying attention to the Constitution which our government never does. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 12/26/13 re: William Cullen Bryant quote Eye witnesses to an auto accident will give different versions of the "truth". And they, each one, think they know the truth. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 12/26/13 re: Marcel Proust quote I am an "aged person" and I don't want to go back in time and live through the 40's and 50's again. Old people like me tend to think that the "Good Old Days" were better than now. People tend to remember the good times they had and to forget the hard times. With all the problems facing this country, I would not want to go back. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 12/25/13 re: Jesse Charles Wagner II quote Robert, Anonymous, and Dick, I agree with your comments. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 12/24/13 re: Henrik Ibsen quote Oops, add the word "change" after climate in my first sentence. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 12/24/13 re: Henrik Ibsen quote Perhaps global climate is real but a lot of people disagree. The question then comes, does human behavior cause this or does something else. Records show that climate change has happened over and over in the past million or so years. Perhaps climate change will be beneficial to the world. A good argument against global warming is the fact that the idiot, Al Gore, is pushing the idea. Previous 25 Next 25 SaveOk2 Share on Facebook Tweet Email Print
